Learning Labs-Inactive

I’m sure most of you have heard that the district decided to put Learning Labs on hold until the number of Covid cases lower in the area. Beginning next week, we will hold the same schedule, but these labs will be virtual. I know it’s not the same, and the kids are tired of being on the computer, therefore they are not mandatory. If they want to jump on for 20 min, we will be reading books at their level as an extra layer of support.

As for this week, I plan to hold labs on Thursday. If you do not feel comfortable sending your child, that is completely ok, just let me know. I plan to give them some Halloween work for next week and send home their next packet and Math books. I will leave in the vestibule by the front office for this who are unable to attend, you can pick up on Friday.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I’m sorry for all the changes, it’s hard on everyone šŸ™

Peek at Week at 8

Happy Sunday! Below is the schedule for next week. We will continue with the same Learning Lab schedule. Please make sure your child brings their book bags with them and when they bring books home to practice reading them.

Tomorrow, I will be messaging everyone on Dojo with their child’s log-in to Raz-Kids. This is a great resource that has books assigned to your child at their reading level. They can listen to the book, read the book, and take a quiz to follow. Students should be reading every night for 15-20 min.

We also have a Mid-Module Math test this week. We will review together on Tuesday, test will be Wednesday. This will cover Topics A-D from Module 3.

As always if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thank you for all your hard work and support each and every day!

Peek at Week 7

Hi Parents,

I hope you were able to get outside and enjoy this awesome warm weather together as a family šŸ™‚ Below is the schedule for Week 7. Learning Labs also begin this week. I sent everyone their child’s day and times for learning labs, if you are unsure or didn’t receive my message, please let me know ASAP.

The purpose of these labs is to provide an extra layer of support. We will be reading books at your child’s level and working on various reading and comprehension skills. There may be times we do something fun, there may be times we review math, but these will mostly be dedicated to Reading. For Learning Labs, please make sure your child has a mask, water bottle, their book bag, a pencil, and a writing notebook. These supplies and items are crucial to our Reading Groups.

I know and understand that these learning labs are inconvenient for a lot of families, especially working parents. These labs are not mandatory, rather an optional layer of support. If there are days that you cannot get your child to school or can’t be there to pick them up, it is completely OK. I just ask you to communicate with me via Dojo or email to let me know they won’t be there.

Again, thank you for your support and dedication. You are all doing so much and I appreciate every bit of it. Have a great week!

Peek at Week 6

Hi families,

I hope everyone had a happy and healthy weekend šŸ™‚ We are now in Week 6 of Remote Learning. We will continue to NWEA test this week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, please make sure you check the sign-up and have your child there at the designated time slot! Thank you in advance. Once testing is finished, we can begin learning labs next week. This is when I will call in small groups of students to read with them at their level and work on intervention. More info to come this week on Learning Labs.

Here is the schedule for Week 6. Please remember this is a working document for me, as far as the “YOU DO” goes. I may change my mind on an assignment, or add something new as the week goes on. Best bet is to pay attention to “Upcoming Assignments” on Schoology for whats due that day/week šŸ™‚

Thank you for your support, I’m very proud of all the hard work the children are doing. I know it’s not easy to do work at home, and it’s not easy to be motivated when learning online. Hoping things can get back to normal soon enough!

Math Test Tomorrow!!

Good evening families,

This will be the first time I’m giving a test online and using this site as well, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed all goes well for tomorrow. Unfortunately I cannot administer the test, as the kids will have to be logged off Zoom to access another site. Therefore, students can take the test when we are finished with our morning Zoom and have up until Sunday evening. I know parents work and people have plans, so I’m giving the weekend to get this done šŸ™‚

They will need their ruler and to use their pinky as a mental benchmark in place of a paperclip. Doing measurement online was not easy, and not nearly as fun as it is when we are in class and can measure different objects with different tools.

Here are the directions to access the test. I will also post as an announcement on Schoology. I will be available to answer any questions through Dojo, I’ll do my best to help you even though this is brand new to me as well!

Directions for Module 2 Assessment:

Student:

  • Link to digital.greatminds.org – you can put the link in your Schoology course and students will log in with google or it can also be accessed through the Clever app
  • Click on To Do tab
  • Click start
  • When finished click review then submit/finish

There will be a Spelling and Math test on Module 2 on Friday! This will be my first time administering a test online for Math, so hopefully it works out. We will review on Thursday. Please be aware that this is just a brief, general outline of some of the concepts and objectives we will be working on this week. Assignments will be under each daily folder in Schoology and you will know what’s due by looking on the right side of the page where it says “upcoming assignments”. We did a great job last week submitting assignments there. I know it’s not easy having to take a picture and upload, so I appreciate your cooperation.

Here are the Spelling Words and High Frequency Words for this week:

I will create a video and post to Schoology to guide students through ELA, and there will be a math YOU TUBE video to help them through Lesson 2. For MATH NWEA, I will be scheduling those in the afternoons only beginning Thursday, look for a seperate post on that later. But for now, please see sign-up below if your child has not come in for Reading.
