Keep the Quote Week 6

The winner of last week’s quote is….

Jordan!!

A few student’s nominated Jordan for small acts of kindness throughout the week.  Whether it be taking the time to make someone feel better, sharing a school supply, or helping them with school work, Jordan earned this quote!  Keep up the great work Jordan and keep on spreading that kindness!

This week’s quote is about being “extraordinary”.  We discussed doing those extra little things that help us to stand out above the rest.

Let’s End the Year with a BANG!

Tomorrow we will start our countdown to the end of the school year 🙁 🙁 🙁 (I’m really sad about this, I truly LOVE this class).

Each day, we will pop a balloon and a student’s name will be inside!  25 balloons for 25 students and 25 (25 1/2 days of school left).

These last 25 days, each student will have a day dedicated to celebrate them!  If their name pops out, they get special privileges for the day.

  1. They can sit where they want.
  2. They are the line leader for the day.
  3. They can sit in my special red chair during carpet time.
  4. They can eat lunch with me and 2 friends.
  5. Each person will write a special message about them.

One of my favorite parts of this countdown is the special message part.  Each kid in the class will write what they love about your child, then I will take a picture and send to you!  I’m so excited to celebrate each student and begin our countdown 🙂

Keep the Quote Week 4

The winner of last week’s quote is…..

Hassan!!!

Many students nominated Hassan for his hard work and dedication to always doing right, for example; following rules, not cheating, not bullying, being a friend to all, always putting in his best effort, and more. Great job Hassan, you deserve it!

This week’s quote was a quote given to me by one of our classmates, Jordan.  She thought this would be a good quote to go along with our kindness theme.  See below and encourage your child to demonstrate this throughout the week and always 🙂

Class News

Happy Monday Parents!

We have a busy week ahead.  M-Step begins tomorrow for Reading and Writing, and next week for Math.  Therefore, I have decided not to give Spelling Words this week.  Besides the fact that we won’t have much time to get into Daily 5, I want the students to be focused on the test at hand with no other distractions.  Below is the link for the newsletter being sent home today.

Please remember that this Friday is the 4th Grade Market Day!  They have been working hard and looking forward to this day for some time now.  I’m excited to see all the different companies and products they’ve made.  Please join us for an afternoon of fun!  12:30-2:30.

1st Grade Market Day

Please come and join the first graders as we celebrate the ending of our Economics unit with Market Day! Market Day is all about determining wants and needs, producing goods and services and trading. Family and friends are invited to help celebrate the world of producers and consumers by shopping at our market from 9am-11am on Tuesday, April 24th. All goods will range from .10 cents to $1.00. All Haigh students will have the opportunity to shop at our market, so if your child would like to purchase something, please send them to school with money. Hope to see you Tuesday!

Thanks for your support,

The First Grade Teachers

The Amazing Race

Hi Parents,

Last week, my students participated in the “Amazing Race, 4th Grade Math Edition” to help review and prep for the upcoming M-Step and NWEA tests.

The kids had a blast!  I wanted to come up with an activity that got them motivated, up and moving, and something they could learn from but also have fun with as opposed to the typical review and test-prep they usually have.

I had 11 stations, all common-core Math related.  I also had 8 road blocks (which were fun, competitive activities not related to math).  They had to work together as a team to solve the Math skill, complete the road blocks, get work checked by me and continue this all the way to the finish line!  Enjoy some pictures below and take a look at the winning teams for each class on the leader board 🙂
