Hidden Messages

First off, I want to thank you all for taking the time to come to Open House last week and visit our classroom!  The students love being able to show off their room and classwork.  They LOVED the hidden messages you left for them and had a blast painting with watercolor to reveal the messages.  They got to hang them inside their lockers and now will get a daily dose of love and encouragement every time they open them.  Enjoy some pictures and THANK YOU!

Open House tomorrow!!

Dear Parents,

You are invited to Open House on September 13th, 2018 from 6-7:30pm.  The purpose of Open House is for your child to show you around the classroom, the school, and to show and talk to you about some of the goals and plans they’ve made for themselves this school year.

With Open House being only a couple weeks into school and for confidentiality reasons, please save all questions about your child’s progress for conferences, which will be at a later time. There will be sign up sheets, in the classroom,  for Parent Teacher Conferences in November. Conferences are the time where we can talk together all about your child and how they are doing so far. Thank you so much for your cooperation. I look forward to meeting you at Open House and getting your child excited about school!

Mrs. Izbicki

MStep Scores from 3rd Grade

Good Afternoon Parents,

Please take a look in your child’s folder tomorrow, as I am sending home their MStep scores from last year.  There is a guide sheet that explains how to read the report.  If your child was not at this school last year, I do not have their report.  You can contact their previous school for that information.

Have a good day!

Math Homework/NWEA Testing

Parents,

Math homework will begin next week, once we start Lesson 1.  The students have been introduced to the first Topic in Module 1, which is focused on Place Value.  We have taken a pre-test and looked at vocabulary words for Topic A.  Before I begin Lesson 1, I want take the NWEA Math test, that way we can be done with testing and dig in to the first Topic without interruption. So, we will testing tomorrow and Friday for Math and Language Usage.

Look for the day’s homework assignment in their planner or in my weekly newsletter.  It will always be practice from that day’s lesson.  So the first homework assignment will be given on Monday.  See the Math Homework Expectation letter below.

                                                         4th Grade Math Homework Expectations

Dear Parents,

Your child has received a Math Homework workbook that includes homework pages for each lesson that was taught to them in class.  After a lesson has been taught, the teacher will assign the homework assignment that needs to be done at home. All homework assignments will be a review and extra practice on that day’s lesson.  Look for the exact assignment for the day/week in your child’s planner each night and/or the blog.

Your child can keep this Math Homework workbook at home during the week.  We are going to ask that students bring their workbook to school each Friday (or a specific day told by the teacher) so that it can be checked.  Homework will be counted as a credit/no credit participation grade. We will not go through and mark questions correct or incorrect. If your child struggled with a specific problem/s, we will be happy to go over it with them in class.

Eureka Math is a new math program that the district purchased for all grade levels this year. We are learning and determined to implement this program and utilize the materials with success, so this will be a learning experience for all of us:)  Thank you for your support and help at home with ensuring your child is getting the most from this new program. We will be sure to post Parent Tips and videos to the blog to best assist you in helping your child with Math.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.  Communication is the key to success!

Thank you,

First Week

Good afternoon Parents!

As the first week of school comes to a close, I want to reflect and share out a couple of pictures 🙂

This week was full of excitement and getting to know each other!  We played get to know you games, did STEM challenges and practiced team building, learned about my expectations and rules for the year, and talked about the year ahead and all the fun we will have!

Next week, we will dig into the 4th grade curriculum with full steam!  Your child has already received many log-ins for various computer programs we will be using this year.  Some include: iLearn (used for Spelling and Reading groups), Zearn (used during Math workshop), Raz-Kids, and Google Classroom.

Look for a newsletter sent home on Tuesday and also posted to the Blog.

Below are some pictures from today’s 2 team building challenges.  Students worked in groups to build the tallest tower made of spaghetti noodles, tape, and a marshmallow on top.  Also, we did an activity called: Save Sam.  Ask your child about this activity, I believe they had a fun time doing it!

Reminder- No school tomorrow or Friday.  Happy Labor Day!!
