Our Halloween Party will take place on Thursday, October 31st, from 12:30-1:30. All parents are welcome to come by! Students will play games, and decorate pumpkins and cookies at this time. The party will last an hour, as they go to Music from 1:55-2:40 pm. The school wide Costume Parade will take place at 2:50 pm. Mr. Short will post the parade map to his blog. Students can wear their costumes to school that day 🙂

Below are the Spelling Words and Class News being sent home today. This week, we have a half day on Friday, with dismissal at 11:45. The students will have a Math test over Module 2 this Friday along with their Spelling test. A Study Guide will be sent home on Wednesday.

This Thursday morning, at 8am, 2nd grade will be holding a parent meeting. This meeting will just reiterate the information I’ve sent home about the homework policy, field trips, and what the 2nd graders are responsible for this year. If you have any questions about any of that, you are encouraged to come!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Picture Day! If you order online, you do not need to send in the form. Our class should be called down before lunch, so sometime in the morning.

Also, please try to turn in field trip permission slips by tomorrow! We have to submit money for the IMAX part of the trip by tomorrow, so this helps us greatly! Any questions, please don’t hesitate 🙂

For this week’s Spelling Words I will be adding on 5 “mystery words” that the kids will only hear for their test. These words are words that they should know, based on the spelling pattern they are learning for the week. So, they will have 15 words, instead of 10. But only 10 are being sent home to study.

This Friday is Picture Day! Envelopes are being sent home today, you can either send money in or buy online. I hope everyone has an awesome week.

Please remember this is a new test the 2nd graders took, so it’s very hard to compare from Spring, especially for Reading. They take the same test in grades 2-5.

Reminder that Wednesday is late start, so school doesn’t begin until 9:35 am. I hope everyone has a great week ahead!

I hope everyone enjoyed a peaceful weekend. Below is the Spelling List for Week 3. We will have our test on Friday. Friday is a half day of school, with dismissal at 11:45 am. Also, the Class News is posted below.

NWEA tests are complete and I will send home data by the end of the week. I will finish up DRA testing this week as well, then begin sending home Book Bags with your child next week. These books will be books at their reading level, that we will use during Reading Groups in school. A reading log will go home with it as well. Students can choose to read from the bag, a book they have checked out from the library, or books on Raz Kids.

This week I will continue to DRA test your child to find their current reading level. We will also take the NWEA test for Reading and Math. Tomorrow we will begin Math, and Wednesday we will take the Reading. This test is not timed, so your child can have as long as they need to finish.

In the past, they took the NWEA test that read questions to them. This test, is going to be much different. There is no audio at all. This is a Grade 2-5 adaptive test, meaning, your child can get questions from various grade-level standards depending on how well they are doing. It will be difficult at first for them, so don’t be surprised at their Fall scores. But, we hope to see a ton of growth by Winter and Spring! We can talk more about this test and their scores when I see you for Parent-Teacher conferences.

Welcome Parents to Room 1!

I am Mrs. Izbicki and will be your child’s 2nd grade teacher this year.  Today was a great first day back, it went by too fast!

Your child received their planner and owl folder today.  In their owl folder you will find a ton of papers that will provide you with school, building, and class information.  Some of these papers need to be filled out, signed, and returned to school as soon as possible.

I will be communicating weekly via blog, so please sign up to receive my newsletters. I also sent a letter home giving directions to join Class Dojo, please sign up here as well 🙂

Tomorrow is a full day of school.  Your child will need to bring a lunch or buy one.  We will have time for snack each day as well.  Our lunch time is from 11:15-11:53 daily.  I will post our special schedule once it’s confirmed and it will stay on the site throughout the year.
