Penny Problem

Abe Lincoln was a BIG man—

a GIANT in every way—–

with GREAT LONG LEGS

and a GREAT TALL HAT

and a GREAT BIG HEART, they say.

And he dreamed BIG DREAMS for our country:

that one day, all people would be FREE

that we’d be one STRONG, UNITED nation,

that we’d live in PEACE and HARMONY.

But when I look at Abe Lincoln on a penny

a leader who in history stands TALL,

I wonder just how it is they managed to fit him on a coin

so

What was Happening?

This week, my explorers started their exploration of the letter M. They created their “mini M book” and they collected different images that start with the letter M and glued them inside. They also started their “I Can Write” packet about the letter of the week, the letter M. The explorers made a mouse out of construction papers that represented the letter M.

For their reading comprehension, the explorers were reading “Hugs & Kisses for The Grouchy Ladybug” book by “Eric Carle”. We answered “wh” questions, such as, “What story did we read?” and, “who was the character in the story?”. We ended this week by reading “My Teacher Is a Monster! No, I Am Not” Book by “Peter Brown”. We have been also learning how to identify words and pictures when are presented by the staff.

This week, we continued our learning of the core word “Want”. Each one of the explorers has their own copy of the book “When I want”. They enjoyed reading the book with teacher and other staff, as well.

The Explorers enjoyed making valentine’s cards for their parents. We placed them in small bags with their favorite treats. They also celebrated the black history month by creating their posters of their favorite African American leaders who made a difference in our world.

This week’s math was all about shapes. We learned about circles, squares, triangles, stars, and many more. We also learned how to count, identify, and match numbers and images.

What was happening?

This week, my explorers started their exploration of the letter L. They created their “mini L book” and they collected different images that start with the letter L and glued them inside. They also started their “I Can Write” packet about the letter of the week, the letter L. The explorers made a ladybug out of construction papers that represented the letter L.

For their reading comprehension, the explorers were reading “My teacher is a Monster! No, I Am Not” book by “Peter Brown”. We answered “wh” questions, such as, “What story did we read?” and, “who was the character in the story?”. We ended this week by reviewing “What’s Up, Duck? A Book of Opposites” by “Tad Hills”. We have been also learning how to identify words and pictures when are presented by the teacher or the staff.

This week, we continued our learning of the core word “GO”. Each one of the explorers has their own copy of the book “Where did you go?” book so they can enjoy it with their families at home. They enjoyed reading the book with the teacher and other staff, as well.

A big shout out and thank you for Abdou A. & Adam F. from Ms. Polster’s class for helping out and reading a story with our little ones. Fourth graders, you rock! because of you, our “Reading Buddies” program is amazing!

We also revisited our five senses in science this week. We learned that we have five senses: hearing, seeing, smelling, feeling, and tasting. We used our science book “I Use My Senses” by “Amy Bihn” and illustrated by “April Black”.

For this week’s math, we started a new concept, shapes. The explorers had the chance to play games with shapes, trace different shapes, and identify them.

Our kiddos enjoyed their educational and fun time during their visits to Gym, Music, and Art.

Exploration of Week 1/31- 2/4

Greetings Friend, & families!

What was happening?

Since it was a very short week, the explorers had only two days to review and practice their learning of the letter of the week, the letter K. They finished their “mini K book” and they collected different images that start with the letter K and glued them inside. They also worked on their “I Can Write” packet about the letter of the week, the letter K. They also had a great and fun time visiting their specials (Art & GYM)!

This week, we continued our learning of the core word “GO”. Each one of the explorers has their own copy of the book “Where Did You Go?”. They enjoyed reading the book with the teacher and other staff, as well.

For their reading comprehension, the explorers were reading “What’s Up Duck?” book by “Tad Hills”. We answered “wh” questions, such as, “What story did we read?” and, “who were the characters in the story?”.

A SNOW DAY!

Greetings Friends & Families!

Current road conditions in the metro Detroit area continue to be a concern. Given the possibility of blowing and additional snow, Superintendent Maleyko, in consultation with the District Emergency Management team, has made the decision to close all Dearborn Public Schools for Friday, February 4, 2022. This decision is being made for the safety of all staff and students.

The District hopes that by making this decision earlier, rather than later, will help parents and staff make arrangements for Friday.

Snow Days :)

Greetings Friend and Families!

Due to the approaching winter storm, all Dearborn Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 3, 2022.  

All students and staff will not participate in virtual or on-line classes. The District is closed for an official Snow Day!!!!  

Information regarding the status for Friday will be posted on Thursday evening.

Enjoy the two days and please be safe.

What was happening?

This week, my explorers started their exploration of the letter K. They created their “mini K book” and they collected different images that start with the letter K and glued them inside. They also started their “I Can Write” packet about the letter of the week, the letter K. The explorers made a kite out of construction papers that represented the letter K.

For their reading comprehension, the explorers were reading “The Homesick Penguin” book by “Ken Bowser”. We answered “wh” questions, such as, “What story did we read?” and, “who was the character in the story?”. We ended this week by reading “The Winter Wish” Book by “Gillian Shields and Rosie Reeve”. We have been also learning how to identify words and pictures when are presented by the staff.

This week, we continued our learning of the core word “GO”. Each one of the explorers has their own copy of the book “Go Fish”. They enjoyed reading the book with teacher and other staff, as well.

We continued learning about our five senses in science. We learned that we have five senses: hearing, seeing, smelling, feeling, and tasting. We used our science book “I Use My Senses” by “Amy Bihn” and illustrated by “April Black”.

This week’s math was all about fractions. We learned how to fill in a whole and a half. We also learned how to count, identify, and match numbers and images.

What was happening?

Since it was a short week, my explorers were still learning about the letter of the week, the letter J. They created their “mini J book”, and collected different images that start with the letter J and glued them inside. They also finished their “I Can Write” packet about the letter of the week, the letter J. The explorers made a Jaguar out of construction papers that represented the letter J.

For their reading comprehension, the explorers were reading “The Homesick Penguin” book by “Ken Bowser”. We answered “wh” questions, such as, “What story did we read?” and “who was the character in the story?”. We have been also learning how to identify and differentiate between words and pictures when are presented by the staff.

This week, we continued our core words with the word “GO”. Each one of the explorers has their own copy of the book “Go Fish”. They enjoyed reading the book with the teacher and other staff, as well.

We enjoyed this week’s science lesson. We continued to learn about our five senses. We read “My Popcorn Story” book. We even made popcorn and our reading buddies enjoyed eating the popcorn.

This week’s math was about fractions and counting. We learned how to fill in a whole part and a half part. We counted Legos, cones, and many more.

A big shout out and thank you to Adam F., Leah H., and Sara N. from Ms. Polster a fourth-grade teacher for joining our classroom on Thursday for the “Reading Buddies” program. They did an awesome and amazing job reading a story with our students.
