The Exploration of the week of 5/13/2024

  1. We started this week with making gifts for our moms, and we celebrated “Mother’s Day” on Monday.
  2. The letter of this week was the letter “Z”.
  3. We did the letter “Z” craft. “Z” is for “Zebra”.
  4. We did letter “Z” worksheets.
  5. Our core word for the month of May will be “It”.
  6. We answered our two reading comprehension questions, “What book did we read?”, and “What was our core word?”.
  7. We read “Easy and Hard” book from the “Core First Learning” series.
  8. This week’s story was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. The book’s author and illustrator is “Eric Carle”.
  9. Our ELA focus for the month of May focus will be on “Compare & Contrast”.
  10. Math concepts for the month of May will be on “Measurement & Data, Geometry”, and the key concepts are “Shapes & Angles”.
  11. ULS topic for the month of May will be “Life Science: Plants Can Grow”.
  12. On Tuesday, we went to Art class. On Monday & Thursday, we went to Music, and on Wednesday and Friday, we went to the Gym.

Howe School: Parent Committee For Special Education Coordinator

The parent and staff interview committee for an additional Special Education Coordinator position will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2024, from 2:30pm to 5:00pm (may end sooner).  Please email HR Generalist, Inas Mouzahem, at mouzahi@dearbornschools.org to express your interest in participating on the committee.  This message is posted on the blog of 11 schools. 

The first parent from each building to express interest will be sent an invitation until we have one parent from each building and/or 11 parents in total.  

If you have participated on any other interview committees in the past year, you will be placed on a waiting list in order to allow more parents the opportunity to participate.

  7. Our ELA focus for the month of April was “Illustrations & Word Recognition”, while the month of May focus will be on “Compare & Contrast”.
  8. Our math focus for the month of April was “Measurement & Data”, and the key concepts were “Time, Money, & Graphs”. Math concepts for the month of May will be on “Measurement & Data, Geometry”, and the key concepts are “Shapes & Angles”.

  11. On Monday, we worked with Ms. LaSandra, our physical therapist. On Friday, we worked with Ms. Katie, our speech therapist, and throughout the week, we worked with Mr. Allen, our occupational therapist.
  12. Finally, on Wednesday, Creative project group held a carnival to celebrate the end of the school year. We would like to send so many thanks for all they do throughout the year to support us and engaging us in many different activities.

In “Froggy Finds Signs of Spring” story, our friend Froggy collects eight items that tell him Spring is here! These items are: a flower, a ladybug, a garden, a bee, a kite, a bird, a butterfly, a bunny, and a rain shower. We enjoyed reading this story 🙂

  8. This week’s story was “A little Book About Spring”. This book was written & illustrated by “Leo Lionni”.
  9. Our ELA focus for the month of April is “Illustrations & Word Recognition”.
  10. Our math focus for the month of April is “Measurement & Data”, and the key concepts are “Time, Money, & Graphs”.
  11. ULS topic for the month of April is “Life Science: Plants Can Grow”.
  12. On Tuesday, we went to Art class. On Thursday, we went to music, and on Wednesday and Friday, we went to the Gym.
  13. This week, we were very excited doing our science experiment: How does a plant drink water? We wrote down our hypothesis: Water won’t move up!, OR, water moves up! Then, we observed our celery for few days to check for any changes. Finally, we wrote down our findings. We noticed that the celery leaves turned to blue and red(the food coloring we used)! That proved the water actually moved up! And this is how a plant drinks water!

  12. On Friday, Howe preschoolers visited our classroom and gave us “Eid AlFitr” treats. Big thank you to them and to their classroom’s staff.

  5. We read “You Are My” book from the “Core First Learning” series.
  6. “I can compare objects and identify which is tall and short” was our math objective for the month of March.
  7. ULS topic for this month is “Earth & Space Science: Tell me about the Weather”.
  8. This week’s story was “There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Clover!”. The book’s author is “Lucille Colandro“.
  9. We met our physical therapy specialist, Ms. LaSandra, and our speech therapist, Ms. Katie Lorenz.
  10. We also participated in GYM, ART, & Music.
  11. On Monday, we met “Creative Project” group who read a story to us and helped us making a cat craft. Big shout and thank you “Creative Project” group. We love you 🙂
