Greetings, Friends & Families!
Poem of the week
Perhaps
All-day long the penguins play
in the cold Antarctic sea—-
diving
splashing
leaping
dashing
in slippery, flippery glee.
While other birds chase blue-sky dreams
the sea to penguins sings——
perhaps they aren’t birds at all
but fish with feet and wings.

What was happening?
This week, my explorers started their exploration of the letter J. For this purpose, they are ready to create their “mini J book”, therefore, they collected different images that start with the letter J and will glue them inside. They also finished their “I Can Write” packet about the letter of the week, the letter J. The explorers made a Jaguar out of construction papers that represented the letter J.
For their reading comprehension, the explorers were reading “The Homesick Penguin” book by “Ken Bowser”. We answered “wh” questions, such as, “What story did we read?” and, “who was the character in the story?”. We ended this week by reading “The Winter Wish” Book by “Gillian Shields and Rosie Reeve”. We have been also learning how to identify words and pictures when are presented by the staff.
This week, we started our core words with the word “GO”. Each one of the explorers has their own copy of the book “Go! Go! Go!”. They enjoyed reading the book with teacher and other staff, as well.
A big shout out and thank you to Aya G., Elena A., and Sara S. from Ms. Polster a fourth-grade teacher for joining our classroom on Thursday for “Reading Buddies” program. They did an awesome and amazing job reading a story with our students.
We had an excited Wednesday when we talked and learned about our senses in science class. We learned that we have five senses: hearing, seeing, smelling, feeling, and tasting. We used our science book “I Use My Senses” by “Amy Bihn” and illustrated by “April Black”.
This week’s math was all about fractions. We learned how to fill in a whole and a half. While in Art, the explorers made a cup filled with cocoa and marshmallow.
Enjoy this week’s story:
