Greetings, Friends & Families!
Poem of the week
Beginning a New Year Means
taking off
clothes spattered with
chocolate milk
and mud
throwing away
scribbled pages
full of crossed-out words
and mistakes
watching
old snow
melting away
putting on
clean clothes
without spots or wrinkles
opening
white pages
with nothing written
on them yet
watching
fresh snow
falling
without tiremarks
or footprints

What was happening?
This week, my explorers continued their learning and exploring the letter I. They made their “mini I book”, and collected different images that start with the letter I and glued them inside another mini-book. They also finish their “I Can Write” packet about the letter of the week, the letter I. The explorers made an island out of construction papers that represented the letter I.
For their reading comprehension, the explorers were reading “The Night Before New Year’s” book by “Natasha Wing”. We answered “wh” questions, such as, “What story did we read? and, “who was the character in the story?”. We ended this week by reading “The Snowy Day” by “Ezra Jack Keats”.
We also started this week exploring and practicing one of our CORE’s words, “GO”. For this purpose, we used the “Go! Go! Go!” book. Students will be taking their copies home starting next week so they can share and read their books with their families. Please, make sure to return the book to the school every day.
This week, we started a new unit in math, fractions. For the following weeks, we will dive deeper into this concept.
The explorers in room #107 had a great and fun time when they visited and participated in GYM, Music, and ART.
Some amazing news we have in our classroom is that we started a new program called “Reading Buddies” with fourth-graders. A big shout out and thank you to Aya, Leah, and Sarah from Ms. Polster a fourth-grade teacher for joining our classroom on Thursday. They did an awesome and amazing job reading a story with our students.
Enjoy the story of the week with your child ๐
