Good morning 🙂 I hope those of you who came to Literacy Night last Thursday enjoyed yourselves. There seemed to be many enjoyable activities.

Late Start this Wednesday. School begins at 9:35.

Thank you to those of you who have sent in the field trip permission slip and $5. If you haven’t please do so as soon as possible. The office needs to send the admission money over prior to our trip.

This weeks spelling words focus on 2 sounds of the letters c and g: cent, city, cave, girl, gym. The Dolch reading words: gave, give, carry, call, clean

We are finishing our opinion writing this week on the topic “a book I like to read”. We’ll be creating a finished product that will look like a book shelf. The students always love this final copy!

Our reading strategy continues with using the illustrations to gain information about the characters, plot and setting of a story. This week, I’ll be using a variety of stories, 1 which is a story for social studies about how a goat is used to make a rug! (The natural,  capital and human resources used to make a rug from goat hair). This story is based on a real person from the Navajo nation in Arizona.

As you can tell from reading, our social studies unit continues with understanding the resources used to make products: human (people), capital (machines, tools, $$), natural (animals, water, plants)

The students have done very well with our 2 and 3 digit addition. Now, we get into subtraction. We’ve done this before with “unbundling” a 10 to move it to the ones place. This is the same process as many of us learned but called it borrowing or trading.

Science continues with the processes that shape the Earth’s surface.

Library book check out is this Thursday. Please return library books by Wednesday.

Enjoy your week and yay for warmer temperatures! 🙂
