Focus for the Week of April 23, 2018

This week our second grade students will be working on:

Reading:  Students will learn how to compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic.

Math:  Students will partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.

Writing:  Students will work on opinion writing.  They will work on drafting, editing, revising and publishing.

Science: Students will learn about plants and insects.  We will be investigating and discussing butterflies, mealworms/beetles, silkworm moths and brassica plants.

Social Studies:  Students will learn about resources to help us understand  about the past. They will be looking at an artifact and other information to learn and understand the past.
