Whitmore Bolles

This year one of Student Lighthouses projects is to give people in need of warm winter clothing, hats and gloves!

All hats and gloves must be new!

Donations start December 4th and end December 15th. We need all hats and gloves before winter break because we want all people to stay warm during the freezing weather.

The class that donates the most gets a special winter surprise!

Start sending in some nice warm winter hats and gloves after our Thanksgiving break!

Thank you – Lola Song and the Student Lighthouse Students

Empty Bowls

The Dearborn Public Schools Art department is hosting the 26th annual Empty Bowls meal on
Monday, Nov. 20, from 4-6:30 p.m. at Park Place Banquet Hall, 23400 Park Street, Dearborn,
MI 48124.
For a suggested $5 donation, guests who attend this family-friendly dinner will receive a one-ofa-kind
handmade bowl and enjoy a serving of tasty soup and bread. The bowls are made by
students in kindergarten through high school who attend Dearborn Public Schools.
Donations will support Gleaners Food Bank and Blessings in a Backpack, local charities that
help feed the hungry. Guests can take their bowls home as a reminder of all those who go hungry
each day.
A variety of soups will be available, including vegetarian and gluten free, at this simple meal of
soup and bread to fight hunger. A tin can raffle also will be held.
No reservations are required, but those who arrive early will get first choice from all of the
unique bowls made and donated by students and teachers in the Dearborn Public Schools.
“This is our 26th annual Empty Bowls dinner. The art department is very proud of this event and
the thousands of dollars we have raised over the years to help those in need,” said Dearborn
Public Schools Art Resource Teacher Susan Briggs. “I’d like to thank students who make the
bowls and both current and retired Dearborn teachers for all of their help and hard work to make
Empty Bowls so successful.”
The annual Empty Bowls charity event is hosted by the Dearborn Public Schools Art Department
and Park Place Banquets & Catering with support from Starbucks of west Dearborn, Sattva Yoga
Center, Blick, Motawi Tileworks, Rovin Ceramic and Star Bakery of Oak Park.
For more information about the Empty Bowls event, contact Dearborn Public Schools Art
Resource Teacher Susan Briggs, at 313-580-0960 or briggss@dearbornschools.org.
