5th Grade Graduation Tuesday, June 9th, 2020 at 1pm!

Good Morning Fifth Grade Parents / Student,


Hope all is well with you and loved ones. As the end of the school year nears,Team Miller sends their love and cordially invites all 5th Grade students to attend the 5th Grade Drive Thru Ceremony next Tuesday June 9, 2020 beginning at 1 PM in the Miller parking lot.  Specific times have been scheduled for specific classrooms, please check the attached flyer for your child’s scheduled time. Students and their parents will remain in their car, drive thru the balloon arch one at a time and be recognized for their achievement and accomplishments. Upon arrival Miller Staff will direct families where to go, attached is a flyer detailing the event. Looking forward to a memorable event and sending off our fifth grade students in style.

Future Stout Students Information

Please share the linked scheduling letter with your 5th grade students. The letter includes links to a Google Form that students will use to make their elective selections and a video with descriptions of the elective classes and instructions for filling out the Google Form. Students will receive a mailing in August and we will also be putting information on the school blog throughout the summer. Please encourage your 5th grade parents to subscribe to Stout’s blog.
Students or parents can email either Mrs. Faraj or I with any unanswered questions. I’ve already had a few 5th graders reach out with questions and a few nice suggestions too.

Good Afternoon Miller Families,

Hope this email finds you and loved ones in good health and spirits.  I take this opportunity to thank each of you for the unwavering support you have given your child and our learning community during these unprecedented times.  We have all had to make adjustments over the last three months that were unexpected, not perfect and stressful at times, but the Miller Community responded with unwavering support and steadfast patience and Team Miller THANKS YOU!

Many unanswered questions remain about next year and a committee comprised of district leadership, staff, students, and parents are diligently working to create multiple plans for varying scenarios that may be possible for reopening school next year.  I will be sharing and communication with the Miller community as decisions become final. IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

Attached are details regarding an important Parent Informational Zoom Meeting regarding adoption of Benchmark reading/writing and secondary math programs.

Students will be taking the i-Ready Diagnostic beginning June 8th, 2020.  It is VERY

IMPORTANT students do their own work and give the best effort allowing for appropriate reading placement during summer learning.

Elementary Report Cards will be distributed via Parent Connect, students still have time this week to complete i-Ready lessons and google classroom assignments for full credit.

Grades 3rd / 4th / 5th Grade StudentsMaterial Distribution / Collection will take place between 1 – 2 p.m.

WHAT:

Distribution and Collection of Student Materials and Summer Math Learning Packets. Teachers will be lined up by alphabetical order and a sign with teacher name will be clearly marked.  

WHERE:

Miller Elementary Parking Lot Sidewalk in front of Cotter

Kindergarten and 3rd Grade Students

2nd and 5th Grade Students

WHY:

Parents are required to pick up belongings and drop off classroom and library books. Chromebooks WILL NOT be collected; students will keep Chromebook over the summer for summer learning.  

HOW:

1.      Parents place LLI/ science/classroom/library books in the trunk of their vehicle.

2.      Parents drive up to designated area and pop open the trunk of the vehicle, if walking please observe social distancing measures.

3.      Teacher will place students’ belongings in the trunk and remove LLI / classroom and library books. 

NOTE:

Do not bring students

Ensure all books are placed in the trunk

Do not exit the car

If we all work together, drive slow and follow directions things will run smoothly, thanks un advance for the teamwork.

5th Graders interesting in sending a speech to Mrs Abdulla for graduation

Good Afternoon, 
Last year, we had students submit an entry to read a speech they had written during the promotion ceremony.  We would like to keep that tradition alive and continue this year.  If you are interested, please read the details below!
Who: All Interested 5th Grade Students What: 5th Grade Promotion Speech Opportunity When: Deadline for submission – June 4, 2020 (they can submit electronically at first but winner will have to send a videotape of them reading in order to post)
Speech Criteria: 

  • Must be respectful and positive to all students, staff, and the Miller community. 
  • Must be no longer than 2 minutes 
  • Meaningful and original 
  • Engages reader 
  • Creative 

I know nothing is better than the actual event but thought it would be nice for them to still get that opportunity.
