Weekly Newsletter Week of November 21st – 25th
This week is a short week due to the Thanksgiving Break. There are so many things to be thankful for. I am thankful for the opportunity to be your child’s teacher! I am so thankful for the amazing school and terrific people I work with at Miller. I am also so thankful for all of you and all that you do for your child’s success! I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
There will be no spelling words this week. Here is what we will be doing.
Math: We will continue with multistep word problems.
CCSS:4.OA.3 Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
Reading:
CCSS:RL 4.3 Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a drama drawing on specific details in the text (e.g. a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).
Writing:
Students will follow all steps of the writing process to produce and publish a narrative piece. Students will learn what a paragraph is and how to organize ideas into paragraphs. Students will be introduced to establishing a narrator to orient the reader and using figurative language and dialogue to add detail. Additional lead and closure techniques will be introduced and attempted.
W4.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
- Orient the reader by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/ or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally.
- Use dialogue and description to develop experiences and events or show the responses of characters to situations.
- Use a variety of transitional words and phrases to manage the sequence of events.
- Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely.
- Provide a conclusion that follows from the narrated experiences or events.
Science: We will continue with Unit 2 – Properties and Changes in Matter.
Develop an understanding that all matter has observable attributes with physical and chemical properties that are described, measured, and compared. Understand that states of matter exist as solid, liquid, or gas; and have physical and chemical properties. Understand all matter is composed of combinations of elements, which are organized by common attributes and characteristics on the Periodic Table.
