Weekly Newsletter Week of March 12th

  • This is the last week in card marking 3.  We will be having parent teacher conferences next week on March 22nd.  I will be sending home notices for those that I need to meet with.   I will not be meeting with all parents this time.
  • Since this is the last week of the card marking we will be finishing up our units.  That means we will be having many tests this week.  Please encourage your child to study throughout the week.
  •  Wednesday is a late start.
  • Thursday is a PTA meeting at 9:00.  I hope many of you can make it.

Here is our objectives:

Reading: – Explain major differences between poems, drama, and prose, and refer to the structural elements of poems (e.g., verse, rhythm, meter) and drama (e.g., casts of characters, settings, descriptions, dialogue, stage directions) when writing or speaking about a text.RL 4.3 – Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).

Writing:
Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.
a. Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer’s purpose.
b. Provide reasons that are supported by facts and details.
c. Link opinion and reasons using words and phrases (e.g. for instance, in order to, in addition).
d. Provide a concluding statement or section related to the opinion presented.

Math:  4.NF.3.b Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decomposition, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 ; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8 ; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8.
Ability to decompose fractions greater than one into whole numbers and fractional parts. (3.NF.3c)
Ability to represent a whole number as a fractions (e.g.: 1=2/2, 3/3, 4/4, etc.)
4.NF.3.c Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators, e.g., by replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction, and/or by using properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Ability to add mixed numbers using a strategy such as adding fractions together and then adding the whole numbers together.
Ability to change a mixed number into an improper fraction.
Ability to subtract mixed numbers using a strategy such as replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction and then subtracting.

Science-4-ESSS3-2 Generate and compare multiple solutions to reduce the impacts of natural processes on humans. 4-ESS1-1 Identify evidence from patterns in rock formations and fossils in rock layers to support an explanation for changes in a landscape over time. 4-ESS2-2 Analyze and interpret data from maps to describe patterns of Earth’s features. ( Test on Wednesday, March 14th)

Social Studies– 2.).2 Identify situations in which specific rights guranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights involved. 4-C5.0.2 Describe the relationship between rights and responsibilite of citizenship, Explain why rights have limits.  ( Test on Tuesday, March 13th)

Weekly Objectives for March 5th

Reading:

RI 4.6 – Compare and contrast a firsthand and secondhand account of the same event or topic; describe the differences in focus and the information provided. RL 4.5 – Explain major differences between poems, drama, and prose, and refer to the structural elements of poems (e.g., verse, rhythm, meter) and drama (e.g., casts of characters, settings, descriptions, dialogue, stage directions) when writing or speaking about a text.

Writing:    Produce clear and coherent writing (including multiple paragraph texts) in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 1-3)

Math:

4.NF.1 Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.

4.NF.2 Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.

Science:

  • How and why is Earth is constantly changing?
  • Plate tectonics and large-scale system interactions. ESS3.B Natural hazards

Social Studies:

4-C3.0.1 Give examples of ways the Constitution limits the powers of the federal government
