Do you remember where the author name, title, and call number belong on a book? You’re going to create your own book cover and make sure to include all these things. You get to be creative by making the book any genre you like. I also have a fun read-aloud to share.
When you are done I would like you to get some practice placing books back in the right place on a shelf using Shelver.
We are continuing with our research unit but we are going to give it a Kahoot spin today. I will read-aloud “A Place for Pluto,” that is a mix of fiction and non-fiction. You will learn so many facts that answer the question…Why is Pluto no longer a planet?
If we have time left, I would like each student to check out at least 1 book from SORA.
Today is our LAST day to finish our research project. Whether you finish or not, you will take your book home. Those of you that are not done can finish them at home. We have had plenty of time so you should be done by the end of Media today.

Week 3 of our research books! So many great illustrations and beautiful covers. I think most of you will be ready for colored pencils and markers next week.
I was so impressed with your research books last week. I love that everyone is taking their time with writing their facts and illustrating. Today is Week 2! Let’s continue doing great.
Last week you did a great job navigating through databases off the MEL. Today is the fun part! I have a blank, hard-covered book for each of you that you are going to use to write the facts that you have found off the database you chose to use for your topic. You are going to add illustrations and color to make it look beautiful. You are going to take your time because we are spending at least 2 weeks working on this. Remember, this is something you will keep forever so you want it to look great.
Research is a great way to learn new things and you will be doing it in every grade. Researching different topics and things is also really fun, especially when we are interested in what you are learning about. I ordered blank hard-covered books for each of you! At the end your research steps you will create your own book featuring what you researched, facts and colorful illustrations to go along with it.
Today we will get ourselves familiar with different Database sites and explore. I will have a graphic organizer ready for you next week.
Tomorrow is the last day before break!! Woohoo! I promised you some Holiday Fun today so I added options you can choose from. You can build your own Snowman, Elf Yourself, listen to Holiday books or anything you haven’t finished yet! I will read one of my favorite stories at the beginning as well.
Coding week! We will go over what coding is, what it is used for and how we can use it as kids. After practicing some coding you also have the option of decorating your own Holiday Sweater!
