We will continue with our books today!

Let’s revisit what a genre is and the different types. Afterwards, just as promised, I ordered each of you your own blank book and you will write your own story with a genre of your choice. I want to see creative writing, we will worry about illustrations and coloring later on but I promise I will give you time for it.

Earth Day is April 22. In honor of Earth Day, I will read-aloud a story that highlights the importance of taking care of our Earth. After our activity, you can explore the April Choice Board. There is a lot of art/drawing activities you can also do that I will point out.

You are going to write your own short story today and use 4 images, of your choice, that represent characters or ideas in your story.

Today we are going to wrap up our research unit with 1 more research project. You will choose a database off the MEL and create your own research “plate,” on any animal of your choice.

Do you remember where the author name, title, and call number belong on a book? You’re going to create your own book cover and make sure to include all these things. You get to be creative by making the book any genre you like. I also have a fun read-aloud to share.

When you are done I would like you to get some practice placing books back in the right place on a shelf using Shelver.

We are continuing with our research unit but we are going to give it a Kahoot spin today. I will read-aloud “A Place for Pluto,” that is a mix of fiction and non-fiction. You will learn so many facts that answer the question…Why is Pluto no longer a planet?

If we have time left, I would like each student to check out at least 1 book from SORA.

Today is our LAST day to finish our research project. Whether you finish or not, you will take your book home. Those of you that are not done can finish them at home. We have had plenty of time so you should be done by the end of Media today.
