Study Tool

I cannot get the study tool to attach. I will write out as much as it will let me.

Mesopotamia: cuneiform, stylus, scribe, dam, irrigation

  1. What does Mesopotamia mean?
  2. What two rivers act as borders for the Fertile Crescent?
  3. Why did people, like Sumerians, settle in Mesopotamia?
  4. Explain how the Sumerians successfully controlled water to farm their land.
  5. How did the Sumerians record their daily business? What did they write with and on?
  6. What inventions did the Sumerians leave us that we still use today?
  7. EGYPT: pyramid, mummy, hieroglyphics, pharaoh, polytheism, cataracts
  8. What main river flows through Egypt? Direction?
  9. What is one of the best areas for growing in Egypt? What makes this possible?
  10. How many Kingdoms make up Egyptian history?
  11. Identify one item that distinguished the separate Kingdoms. Ex: which Kingdom were the pyramids in?
  12. Who was Hatsheput and what was she known for? Who was King Tut and why was Howard Carter important to this find?
  13. GREECE: Trojan Horse, city-state, Homer, Olympics, Sophists
  14. Who were the Minoans? Where were they located? Two theories what happened to them?
  15. What did the Iliad and the Odyssey explain? Who wrote them?
  16. Who were the Mycenaean? Who did they get in a fight with? Why?
  17. What group of people brought the “Dark Ages” to the Greeks?
  18. What is a philosopher? What did Socrates, Plato and Aristotle emphasize?
  19. Explain what the Socratic Method is and how we benefit from using it in education/work today.

  4. Five minute clip on King Tut (6th hour only)
  5. Checking for binder, college paper, construction paper and parent/guardian signature on syllabus. Will call each of you up to the desk.
  6. Check: Newslea article on Mesopotamia villages and farming. 20 formative points.
  7. Exit: go over planners. Each hour works on a quick planner item from administration.
