Caution: Scientists at Work!

Posted by Amy Gwizdz on February 28, 2014 in Class News |

Fifth graders are learning about adaptations in science right now, and performed an experiment involving “bird beaks.” They performed several challenges with multiple food sources for birds, such as sunflower seeds, gummy worms and foam cubes in water. They had to use a variety of different “beaks,” like chopsticks, pliers, straws, slotted spoons and tweezers to extract their food source. Worms were buried in sand, foam cubes floated in water, and sunflower seeds needed to be cracked. Check out our pics from the experiment!

First, we discussed traits of birds. Where do they live, what do they need to survive, what do they eat, etc.
