Happenings for January 14th-18th

  • just a reminder: This coming Wednesday we will be enjoying a performance by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra during school. This is an incredible opportunity for Stout.
  • Friday is a half day
  • All assignments and projects must be picked up by Thursday please!

8th Grade:

This is our last week of the semester. We have just completed our unit on electronics and this week we will finish up with a fun activity on catapults. Monday we will be watching videos on catapults and researching various ways in which a catapult is constructed as well as the differences between a catapult and a trebuchet.

7th Grade:

This final week of of the semester we will be working on catapults. We will take a look at how to create and test a catapult.

6th Grade:

This week we are finishing up our board game project. All groups should have their games finished by Wednesday and have played them at least once themselves. We will play all games on Thursday. Students may pick up their games on Friday.

Happenings for January 7th-11th

8th Grade:

Welcome back students! We are continuing our final unit on electricity with a focus on using our new electronics kits and drawing our electrical circuits using the new packet which each group will need to complete this week. Next week we will have a final packet. Our final notebook check will be on January 15th so please be up to date! Also, all work for our current unit,including extra credit for the electricity unit is due by January 17th, no exceptions!

7th Grade:

Welcome back 7th graders! We will be finishing up our architecture unit by completing our models by Friday! Students who finish early should consider the extra credit available with this unit! Final notebook checks will be January 16th so please be up to date!

6th Grade:

Welcome back 6th graders! This week we will be finishing up our board game projects by Thursday and then test out our games on Friday. Students please be sure to complete the board construction, pawns, rules and anything else you need to complete your game by Thursday!

Happenings for December 17th-21st

8th Grade:

Students will begin their final unit on electronics. This is the first time we are using our new Snap Circuit Kits to learn about how series and parallel circuits work.

7th Grade:

We continue with our architecture unit this week by finishing up our floor plans using the scale 1/4″ = 1′ on a large paper. We will then take our floor plans and begin building our house models which will be due January 11th.

6th Grade:

We just completed our invention projects and I was so impressed by the variety of inventions each student chose to research and share! Great job to all! This week and the week after break we will be working in groups to create board games to test on January 11th.

Happenings for December 10th-14th

8th Grade:

Students are completing trays this week complete with paint and handles. Next students will be drawing out a three-view rendering of their tray and then will be using sketch-up to complete the design.

Next week we complete sketch-up and then begin our final activity.

7th Grade:

Students have been working hard on their floor plan on the computers. They will transition this week into drawing out their designs on paper by using the scale 1/4″ = 1′. Click on the link below to help you understand how to scale your drawing:

6th Grade:

Students will be completing their activity on inventions this week with presentations taking place on Thursday and Friday. Students who complete the activity early may begin getting ideas for their game board activity which begins next Monday.

Happenings for November 26th-30th

8th Grade:

This week students will begin their tray assignment in which they will cut pallet wood, measuring correct lengths and assemble trays. Students who would like to bring in their own handles are welcomed to.

7th Grade:

This week we are testing our paper coasters on Wednesday. Groups should have measured their length of track and calculated speed by Wednesday.

We begin our new unit on architecture on Thursday which will take us to the end of the semester.

6th Grade:

This week we begin our new unit on Inventions and history. Students will focus on how technology helps us in everyday life.

Happenings for November 12th-16th

  • Conferences are this week, Monday and Wednesday from 4-7pm

8th Grade: 

Students will be continuing to work on safety in the woodshop which includes the use of hand tools, power tools and machines.

Monday: we will read and complete the article on safety rules for your woodshop and answer questions. notes on tools and copying notes on general hand tool safety will be worked on today.

Tuesday: Students will begin a poster activity in which they will create a safety poster.

Wednesday: poster continued and once completed students are to work on the crossword and word search activities.

Thursday: we will complete the study guide and review for the safety test.

Friday: safety test. Students are to bring a book or work from another class to do after the test is completed.

7th Grade:

Students are completing the last week of structures by building a paper roller coaster. Students will be testing their coaster for safety and speed and then next week we will do a final test.

6th Grade:

Students will be working on measuring skills this week.

Happenings for November 5th-9th

  • This week begins the new marking period
  • November 6th, election day, no school

8th Grade:

Students have completed their manufacturing assignment as of last week. What a great job they did on their shoe commercials?

This week we get into safety with hand tools, power tools and machines and general safety in the technology lab.

7th Grade:

This week we continue with our unit on structures. We have learned about how the triangle is used as a support in trusses. See below:

Groups are working this week and next week on designing and building a coaster made out of card stock paper.

6th Grade:

This week we begin a new marking period in exploring technology.

Happenings for October 29th- November 2nd

Reminders:

Advisory on the 31st

End of the marking period is this Friday!

Notebooks are sue this week!

 

8th Grade:

We are coming to the end of our unit on using the design process to manufacture a shoe for our company. Commercials must be completed and sent to me by the end of the hour on the 31st. Packets for this unit are also due by the 31st. We will start watching our commercials on the 31st and complete them by November 2nd. We will also start discussing our next unit on electricity. late this week.

7th Grade:

We begin this week with a new unit on structures. Our focus will be how structures support weight and can also look beautiful. Students will work in table groups to compete in building the tallest structure they can and then later in the week we will form groups of 3-4 and begin construction on our paper coasters.

Each group will need a pack of cardstock paper (50 sheets) and at least 3 rolls of clear tape. I have the paper here for $2.00 or they can purchase paper at Michaels or Joannes.

6th Grade:

We just completed testing out our games on Friday and this week, our final week together, we will be learning about architecture.
