The 8th grade classes began a manufacturing project at the end of October. This objective of this activity is for students to understand the manufacturing process as is used in producing all items used by the consumer.

Students formed companies and started discussing the manufacturing process as shown below:

Companies have completed the models and are beginning building their products based on the need identified.

7th grade students are currently working on creating orthographic projections (two dimensional drawings of an object) , as used in engineering. Click on the link below for an example.

7th Grade learns about architecture

Posted by Erica Fulton on October 6, 2014 in Class News |

Last week the 7th grade Foundations of Technology class began working on how to create basic floor plans. These floor plans are similar to something you would find in a floor plan book. They are called artists renditions. Students have learned about symbols used in architecture as well as how to scale a floor plan from an example taken off of Google images. They are currently scaling the floor plan to 1/4″ = 1′. Next we will be examining appropriate size restrictions for various rooms.  We might even add landscape architecture later on since many students have been asking about designing their yard.

Take a look at some examples below (Google images)

*This is the floor plan we are using right now:

Here is another one. What do you like about it? What would you change?

Time Management

Posted by Erica Fulton on September 9, 2014 in Class News |

Week of September 8th

This week we are focusing on time management skills. We discuss how to create a to do list, prioritize our list, apply that list to a weekly calendar, access just how organized we are in managing our time and finally how to create a monthly calendar to help us plan in advance. If students have not added a calendar app to their cell phones this would be a good idea to do so.

7th and 8th grade students will begin a review of measuring skills so that they are prepared for the manufacturing project to begin next month.

Welcome to Technology Education

Posted by Erica Fulton on August 23, 2014 in Class News |

Welcome To Technology Education at Stout Middle School! I am Mrs. Fulton, instructor extraordinaire!  I have had the pleasure of teaching in Dearborn for 17 years! I have taught at Lowrey, Unis, Dearborn high, Fordson High, The Michael Berry Career Center and The Dearborn Center for Math, Science and Technology. My first year with the Dearborn Public Schools brought me to Stout as a long term substitute in the exact same classroom I will be in this year!  I have taught in the areas of wood shop, home Tech, electronics, auto shop, mechanical drafting and architectural drafting as well as middle school technology. You could say that I am a “Jill” of all trades, some trades more proficient than others.

As this is my second consecutive year at Stout I have been researching some great projects for us to do this year to better learn about the technology that is all around us.

I bet you are wondering why I have LEGOs on my page…well, I loved to play with LEGOs as a child and I believe they influenced my decision to go into a profession where I can teach others how to create and build.  Also, I have two sons who are both members of our church’s LEGO robotics team. Go FLL (First LEGO League) team 803, Crazy Creators!

I am looking forward to a great year with new students and staff! GO FALCONS!!!

First week of school in Technology class

Posted by Erica Fulton on August 23, 2014 in Class News |

Good day all…

Here is what you have to look forward to in Mrs. Fulton’s class for the first week of school!

6th Grade: First we will get to know each other and then get to know our classroom.  We will work on how to manage our time in class and what is expected of an awesome Stout student.

7th Grade: Although I had the pleasure to meet most of you last year we will need to reintroduce ourselves and learn what our class will be like as 7th graders. Our focus is on the foundations of technology.

8th Grade: You are the oldest in the school now and as you begin your last year of middle school we will get to know each other as we learn about how technology is applied to everyday life

That’s all for this week!
