6th grade Exploring Technology:

For the next three weeks students will be focusing on what technology is and how we use it in our lives. For this unit students are working on a Pict-o-word poster in small groups and then they will be working on a research project. This project has two parts: a one page typed paper about an invention and then a choice of either a timeline or a powerpoint or a model of the invention. 7th grade Foundations of Technology:

Students in this class have been working this past week on creating a label for a bottle. This activity is to help students understand how advertising influences our purchases, Students can make their labels for a pop, coffee, energy or juice drink. Each label is to contain eight items:

  1. A logo with a description and a promotion (win a prize)
  2. Nutrition Facts (required by law) which describes the serving size, calories and such.
  3. Ingredients (also required by law)
  4. A recycle symbol
  5. A deposit of 10 cents
  6. The bar code (what is scanned at the check out)
  7. Company information (a website or address)
  8. The size of the bottle (12 fl. oz. or 20 fl. oz.)

To continue our unit on advertising students will next choose a Public Service Announcement (PSA) and create a commercial using power point. A public service announcement does not sell a product but is used to inform the audience. To find examples of PSA’s take a look at the website below:

We will work on these commercials and showing them to our class over the next two weeks. This is a summative projects (worth 80%)

8th grade Applications of Technology:
