Measuring skills

In Technology Education all grade levels are working on measuring skills. Measuring is a life long skill, meaning that even into adulthood we measuring using rulers, yard sticks and measuring tape.

Below are the fractions used within each inch:

 

6th Grade:

Students will practice their measuring skills in class by playing measuring games on the computer and making an actual ruler which they can take home to use.

7th Grade:

Students took a pre-test two weeks ago (ungraded) and have been practicing measuring in the classroom by measuring the length and height of tables, distance from the sink to my desk and diameter of a stool.

  • Ask your child to measure various widths, lengths, heights and distances within your home as well. Record the results of ten measured items (include the names of the items), sign the sheet and have your child bring in for 3 points extra credit.

Next we will work on a measuring packet and then put our skills to the test with an activity which requires students to measure and construct objects using construction paper.

8th Grade:
