2nd Grade Parents

Please look for an email from Ms. Marano or Ms. Alzaharnah asking you to join their Class DoJo site. They will be posting grade specific activities and updates. You may also want to follow their iBlog as well. I will also update IXL for 2nd Grade. All they will have to do is log on to www.ixl.com/signin/roe, use their IXL login and go to the 2nd grade math and language arts tabs. Then just do the starred activities. Of course, you may have students practice their addition and subtraction facts as well.

Thank you and Stay Healthy!

Online Learning Plan

Hello parents,

For the next 3 weeks students will be working online due to statewide school closures. It is an expectation that students are working on online assignments Monday through Friday per district guidelines.

Each week, of the three week closure, the third grade team will send a list of assignments that students need to complete per subject area. As a parent, you are also responsible to make sure your child is completing the assigned tasks. We will post on the blog weekly, so please check blog every Monday for a new set of assignments for your child to complete. If you have any questions, you may send us a message on the blog or via email. Please allow a few days for response due to high volume of parent communication.

Every student has IXL and RAZ kids log-ins and have been using them. If students are unsure of login and password it is an expectation of the parents that they contact the teacher to obtain login information. Supplies needed will be an electronic device to access assignments, and a writing journal.

We are working as parents and a third grade team at River Oaks to ensure learning continues throughout this situation. We hope everyone stays safe and continues their growth in learning academics.

School Closing and Assignments

Students are able to come get school supplies and belongings this morning at 8:30. I have already gone through their desks and placed all work, books, and supplies that they might need on top of their desks to facilitate this. Please come do so. I have discovered that many students have left their reading books and other class assignments at school.

At this time, I am still unsure as how the next few weeks will look, but I will keep you updated as new information is released. Please remember that students have access to online learning sites IXL, Epic, Zearn, and Raz Kids.

Take care, curl up with a good book, and stay healthy!

Upcoming Field Trips

Dearborn Historical Museum

Monday, March 23, 9-11:30. Cost $5/ student – Chaperones Free. Wear weather appropriate clothes. There are stairs. 3 Chaperones needed. May ride the bus.

We will be visiting Dearborn’s Historical Museum near the intersection of Brady and Michigan Avenue (only about 7 minutes away). We will be experiencing and learning about Dearborn in the early 1800’s. This is arranged through Dearborn Public Schools as part of our curriculum. We will rotate through 3 stations learning about planting, butter making, and family life. Then we will have a brief presentation as a whole class in the one room schoolhouse where we will do a lesson using slates and pioneer text books. We will then return to River Oaks to have lunch as usual. And then complete the rest of our academic day.

There will be another school group from Howe Elementary and I believe we are sharing the bus (the classes will sit on opposite sides of the aisle). However, they will have the opposite schedule as us. While we do stations, they will be in the school house and then we will switch. So there will be minimal, if any contact with them. I will bring hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes to use as needed.

Troy Historical Village

Wednesday, April 1, 9:00-2:30. Cost $2/student -$8/chaperone. Bring a bagged lunch and drink. 3 Chaperones needed. May ride the bus.

We will be the only group at this small village about the size of the River Oaks Playground. We will be eating lunch there. I will bring hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes with me to ensure a clean safe environment for our students and staff. The only people we will have contact with are the museum workers.

Lansing Trip – 3rd Grade Only

Friday, April 17, 7:00 AM-3:15 PM -Cost -$2/ student -$4/chaperone. 4 chaperones needed. Pack a bagged lunch and drink. Chaperones are responsible for a group at the museum. We will be on a charter bus.

Students need to be dropped off at school no later than 7:00 AM. Parents need to provide transportation to school.

We will be visiting the capitol building and the Michigan Historical Museum. More details will be coming home next week.

Please let me know by writing “my child will not attend” on the field trip note if you will not be sending your child.

As always, my first concern is the safety of your child. I will do all that I can to minimize any health risks on these field trips.
