Baby Picture/Guess Who Board!

Hello 5th Grade Parents and Families!

We are continuing the tradition of the ‘Guess Who Bulletin Board’ featuring a baby photo for each fifth grader. As this school year has been unique to any other, we wanted to do the traditional bulletin board at school, but also a virtual version for students to have and share. It will be a celebration of each of the amazing individuals who are finishing their elementary
career!

We will need the following:

  1. Your student’s full name
  2. Your student’s current teacher
  3. What your 5th grader wants to be when they grow up
  4. A digital baby photo of your student
  5. A digital current photo of your student
Send the above to Krista Jones via email (cafeamericanos@gmail.com) or What’s App at 517-974-3939, no later than April 30th .

Thank you for your help!

M-Step Testing Begins on April 12th!

Dear Team 5th Grade Parents and Guardians,

The M-Step (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress) test begins on Monday, April 12th.  Over the next several weeks, your fifth grade student will be taking 4 M-Step State tests:

-English Language Arts

-Math

-Science

-Social Studies

Your student will be testing, in school, on their hybrid schedule days. Group A will be testing on Mondays and Thursday, and Group B will be testing on Tuesdays and Fridays.  As always, this is a very important test.

Your child is encouraged to bring headphones/earbuds and a computer mouse for them to use on those days.  A computer mouse is extremely helpful to the students.  We are allowing mint gum and peppermint mints to have during testing as well. If you would like to send those things with your child, you’re more than welcome to.

IMPORTANT!! To ensure an optimum testing environment, we need your support. Here are some very important, and proven, suggestions:

  • Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep
  • Have your child eat a healthy breakfast
  • Please get your child to school on time
  • Send a healthy snack and a water bottle to school with your child
  • Encourage your child to do their best

We want your child’s M-Step experience to be as relaxed and stress free as possible. Students will not be tested for long periods of time. Testing sessions will be short and breaks will be given as needed.

Thank you for all of your help and support for this very important test.

The students HAVE been working so hard this year, and I know they will DO THEIR BEST, to be the BEST version of themselves!

GO TEAM 5th grade!! You’re going do an AMAZING job on the test!!

Respectfully,

Mr. D

A letter from Dr. Maleyko: April 6-9 2021 Virtual Learning for all students in Dearborn Public Schools Following the Spring Break

Greetings,

Our staff and students have been doing an outstanding job with following all of our COVID 19 safety rules. I have visited every school in Dearborn Public Schools during the month of March to observe COVID 19 safety protocols and classroom instruction. I am extremely proud of our incredible staff, students and the community. We will continue to place safety as a top priority, and with an abundance of caution we have decided to place all students on a virtual schedule for the week of April 6-9 following the Spring Break. We realize that families may be traveling over the break and may interact with more individuals during the Easter holiday. This means that three days will be changed to synchronous online learning instead of Hybrid learning (April 6th, 8th, and 9th). Wednesday April 7th was already scheduled as a virtual day.

In addition, we have sent communications regarding our free COVID 19 Antigen Testing site at Edsel Ford High School on April 5 from 11am-6pm. I am encouraging all staff, students and community members who want peace of mind to please go to the site for testing on April 5. Click here to view the information regarding this testing clinic that will be run by the State of Michigan at Edsel Ford.

We still have some challenges to face with the pandemic moving forward, and I encourage everyone to follow the COVID 19 safety protocols to help prevent the spread of the virus. However, I also believe that we have some positive news on the horizon as more vaccines are now available and Dearborn Public Schools is planning to partner with vaccine providers to get students who are sixteen and over vaccinated during the month of April.  For those of you who celebrate the Easter holiday or any other holiday during this time, I wish you and your family all the best for a happy holiday season.

Please stay safe and remember to wear your mask.

Regards,

Glenn M. Maleyko, Ph.D.
