Week of October 1st

We had a great time on the field trip last week!  Check out Class Dojo for pictures on the class story.

Here is what is happening this week:

ELA

  • Spelling words this week: photosynthesis, weight, mode, although, range, reaction, whether, challenge, approach, matter, abolish, whimper, chosen, action, homophones, relation, physical, hyphen, interaction, charity.
  • We are working on finding the theme of a drama by identifying details of character experience in a text.
  • We are also having students explain using academic vocabulary what the theme, details, challenge, and characters are of a story or text.
  • In writing we are going to begin writing a Text Dependent Analysis to prepare for M-Step.

Math

  • We are starting lesson 5 of Eureka math that focuses on identifying decimal fractions in expanded, unit, and word forms by applying place value reasoning.
  • Students will need to explain the decimal fractions using the vocabulary: hundreds, tens, ones, tenths, hundredths, thousandths.

Social Studies

  • We are wrapping up the three branches of government.
  • We will begin talking about state and federal government powers and which powers are shared.
  • Then we will discuss how a bill becomes a law.

Science

  • We will begin mystery 3 on acids, reactions, and properties of matter.
  • Students will be asked the questions: What would happen if you drank a glass of acid? Example…orange juice.
