Week of September 24th

Field Trip is Thursday, September 26th!!  Please be sure to pack a lunch.  Chaperones, please make sure you are at the school by 8AM.  Bus will leave promptly at 8:30AM.

Here is what is happening this week:

ELA

  • Here are the spelling words: object, encounters, dissolve, poster, comedy, introduction, metric, gossip, program, meter, focus, federalism, rotation, vocal, exponential, exponent, expanded, oppose, mass, pocket.
  • We are wrapping up inferencing and supporting it with text.
  • We will begin working on theme of a story by identifying details of characters and using graphic organizers.
  • In writing we are publishing our personal narratives.

Math

  • We will be working on using exponents to denote powers of 10 with application to metric conversions.
  • Then we will work on naming decimal fractions in expanded, unit, and word forms by applying place value reasoning. Use the chart below to help with homework.

Science 

  • We started mystery 2 by asking ourselves if we could make worthless things into gold.
  • Students did an experiment with pennies and a steel nail to see how the copper changed the steel nail to copper.
  • Students made observations and are taking notes on the changes.

Social Studies

  • We are continuing to talk about the three branches of government.
  • We will be doing a sort of jobs that each branch of government holds so that we can see the different between all three branches.
