We continued the Language NWEA today. Chapter 13-15 reading and discussion questions need to be completed BEFORE class begins tomorrow! Students that were NWEA testing were informed of this and must finish them as homework.

We began the Language NWEA today. We will continue this tomorrow for those that have not finished. Chapters 13-15  of The Giver must be read by Friday along with the chapter questions.

We were given One-Pager #8 to begin on The Giver. We have not finished reading this novel yet so this cannot be fully completed until we do so you can write a full summary.

We had our very own Ceremony of Twelve in the auditorium as well. This was to allow students to better empathize with the community members and Jonas in The Giver. When we were done we discussed what it felt like and how we can now better relate to Jonas’s experience.

We worked on chapters 10-12 with our Literature Circle groups today.  We read the chapters and began the discussion questions that went along with them.  We will continue working on the chapter questions tomorrow. We will also work on a Sensory Details activity and finish our Ages and Stages Chart.

Today we presented our Utopia Projects and worked on vocabulary for chapters 9-16. We also were given the chapter 9 questions to work on during Daily 5 time. These must be completed for homework if they were not finished in class. Tomorrow we will be assigned Literature Circle groups and have a discussion of chapter 8 and 9 so make sure you are prepared with these tomorrow!!

Phew! We have been working hard taking the NWEA Reading test this week! Most students are finished and many have reached or exceeded their goals! You should be really proud of yourselves for all the hard work you put in this year, I know I am proud of you!

We continued with The Giver this week, reading chapters 6 and 7 after finished the NWEA test. Today we were given the chapter 6-7 guided questions and worked to complete our Job and Vocabulary charts with a partner. Today we began filling out our charts for The Giver. We are tracking vocabulary, language used, figurative language, plot, and many other elements. This is a very comprehensive unit so it is imperative students are in school daily or they will miss a lot!  Today we read chapter 4 and worked on the chapter questions with our groups. We will continue our discussion tomorrow.

We discussed the difference between a Dystopia and Utopia today in order to begin planning our upcoming project. We also read and discussed Chapter 1 of The Giver. Today we finished presenting our Folktale Projects. After Daily 5 time we did a Pre-reading activity for The Giver and made predictions about the plot, characters, and setting of the story based on quotes from the book. We need to start bringing our copies of The Giver on Monday! I have a class set if you did not purchase the book yet or aren’t planning too.
