We began class with our at home reading Bellwork prompt. We then revisited our Class Agreement from the first week of school and evaluated how we were doing with our expectations of each other. We will visit this frequently throughout the school year!  Our Class Dojo is up and running! I will send home codes with the students next week if you are interested in checking in with their Dojo. Checkout www.classdojo.com for more information!

We also were assigned groups on Newsela so we can begin implementing this piece of our curriculum into our daily routine next week. We practiced two rounds of Daily 5 today as well and worked on our stamina! All classes made it to the 20 minute mark today!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Homework

  • 20 minutes of reading “good-fit” book (60 minutes per week!) – be prepared to write about your book during Friday’s bellwork
  • 60 minutes of MobyMax-LANGUAGE due next Friday!  I addressed the Vocabulary minute concerns with most students today when I had the time. Please email me with any computer or MobyMax issues so I can grade it fairly!

Today we created our Reading Progress board for the class. We created our favorite emoji on a sticker and put our individualized sticker up under the “Fall” category. We will track our progress throughout the rest of the year using our NWEA RIT scores. The goal is to grow in reading!

We were also introduced to the End of Novel One-Pager.  When students complete their two required books per marking period, they will complete a One-Pager assignment and turn it in to the pink bucket.  Two One-Pagers on two different books a student has finished reading are due by November 3rd, however I encourage these to be turned in ASAP because students will be allowed to “Fix” or “Redo” this summative grade for more points if points were lost. If you wait until the last day of the card marking (November 3rd), this will not be possible for you! I will create a tab on my blog soon that has each One-Pager direction sheet on it.

The remainder of the class was spent working on “Read to Self” stamina. Most classes made it to 20 minutes uninterrupted today!

Homework

  • 20 minutes of reading “good-fit” book (60 minutes per week!) – be prepared to write about your book during Friday’s bellwork
  • 60 minutes of MobyMax-VOCABULARY due Friday!

Today we spent the day creating our online ePortfolios with our updated NWEA data.  Ask your student to show you theirs! On this they have their scores, Lexile range, Academic goals for the year, and Personal goals for the year! They worked really hard to complete most of this but it is still a continual work in progress!

Today we finished our About Me acrostic poems and created our writing portfolios. We also signed up for my iLearn site and Quizlet pages. We ended class with discussing the Daily 5 choice of “Read to Self” – BRING A READING BOOK TOMORROW!!! If you don’t have one you may borrow from my class library.

Homework

  • Summer Book Collage & index cards (new students do not turn these in) due FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15th
    • This information was sent home with the students at the end of 5th grade, please see my June 19th post for more information on what students have due by Friday
  • 60 minutes of MobyMax LANGUAGE  due by FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15th (before school begins!)
    • This isn’t the summer learning minutes, this is assigned weekly homework! Make sure you get this done in time!

Open house is tonight from 6-7:30 pm! Please be advised that each grade level has their own Open House schedule to follow.

The sixth grade Open House schedule is as follows:

6:00 – 6:15        Block 1

6:19 – 6:34         Block 2

6:38 – 6:43         Block 3

6:47 – 7:02         Open Block

7:10 – 7:18        “A” Day Elective

7:22 – 7:30         “B” Day Elective

Your student should have filled out a paper with their personal schedule in their first block today. If they do not have one to give you, they should have their schedule taped into their planner so you can take a photo of it and bring that with you!  We are trying to be equitable with the times and room numbers. The “Open Block” is for visiting either Mr. Peterson or Mrs. Jones because they split their science and social studies days.

See you tonight!

We had quite a busy day today!  We started out with a 6th grade welcome assembly where we were acclimated with school-wide policies and expectations. We then went to all 3 blocks in the morning where we signed up for the technology we are going to use in each classroom. For my class we signed up for my Google Classroom, Read Theory, and were assigned our first round of MobyMax minutes. To get the students used to MobyMax homework, they will be given time in class to complete SOME of their 60 minutes that are due Friday.

In the afternoon we went outside and played various team-building activities so we could get to know our classmates better and how to best communicate and collaborate to complete tasks efficiently.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Welcome to my blog! Please take a minute to subscribe by entering your email in the box on the top right to stay updated daily!

Today we practiced more with our lockers and went over our class syllabus & summer reading requirements. The first week of school is information overload so it would be great if you could go over the Welcome Letter and Class Information packet I sent home today as a family! Over the course of the year information may be added or changed but it’s a great overview of what to expect in terms of my policies and expectations!

Tomorrow we will continue getting to know each other a little better but today was a great first full day!

Have a great evening!

Homework

  • Recommended supplies – do you have everything you may need to be successful in 6th grade?
  • Book Collage (from summer reading requirements) due September 15th!!
