Happy Halloween!  We finished our Internal/External Conflict notes today and began our Types of Conflict Foldables.  We had a shortened schedule due to our annual Halloween Celebration. The 6th grade class watched Jumanji in the Auditorium for a Halloween treat.

Today we reviewed the Vocabulary Test to better understand how to answer these types of questions. We also read our Article of the Week and working on the activities that go along with it.

Today we took our Vocabulary test. There were two mistakes found on the test that I have since fixed and regraded, which added a few points to many tests. Please log onto iLearn to see if your grade has been fixed!  Retake session will be announced next week.

Today we reviewed literary elements for “The School Play” and learned internal and external conflict notes. We ended class playing a review game for tomorrow’s test! Don’t forget to study!

Today we read the story “The School Play” by Gary Soto and analyzed it using the pyramid of action. We read the story as a class and analyzed the story up to the climax, then completed the rest with a partner.

We reviewed the Pyramid of Action and discussed the 5 components of plot (exposition, rising actions, climax, falling actions, resolution) using the story “Little Red Riding Hood” with a partner and check our answers as a class. We also used pre-reading strategies with our Newsela Article of the Week. We labeled text features and used them to make predictions on what the article will be about. We also visited the library to check out new books!

We reviewed story vocabulary today and applied it to the story “Eleven” with a partner.  We also set up our ISN’s with the Pyramid of Action and discussed the 5 components of plot (exposition, rising actions, climax, falling actions, resolution), we will continue with this tomorrow and apply it to a short story.

We discussed the story “Eleven” today and learned how to properly cite textual evidence.  We then wrote a C.E.R. response about the narrator’s point of view in the story “Eleven”.

Today we read the short story “Eleven” by  Sandra Cisneros. We made and adjusted our predictions as we read. We also practiced what “group discussion” looks like by observing a video clip that modeled what it should look like, sound like, and feel like prior to practicing discussion topics with our table groups.

Today we worked on making predictions about a story using the text features available. We will confirm or adjust our predictions tomorrow as we read the story “Eleven”. We wrote our predictions in our ISNs and shared with a partner. We then completed common and proper nouns and worked on abstract and concrete nouns.

Don’t forget tomorrow is late start! No advisory. Block 1 starts at 9:00 am!

Progress reports:  Progress reports are only given out to students that have a C or lower in any class. If your student was not given a progress report it would be because their grade is above a C in their classes!

Today we did a C.E.R. (claim, evidence, and reasoning) activity that involved solving a mystery using evidence from a story and picture. They worked in groups to discuss relevant evidence and why that evidence is important to proving what really happened.  We had a lot of fun and write our full predictions on Monday!

We went to the library today to check out new books! Any student that left their library book at home or did not finish their book in time will have the opportunity to return their books to the library during Daily 5 time throughout the week.  When we returned from the library we practiced with identifying Point of View and completed our Parts of Speech notes in between rounds of Daily 5.

Today we began reviewing Point of View. We took some guided notes and practiced identifying point of view types with examples. We also reviewed the last of our text features and were given our One-Pager for book two!

Today we analyzed different types of text for Author’s purpose of writing and explained our reasoning. We also reviewed text features and watched the Parts of speech rap video. Article of the Week will now be due next Friday so we have more time to familiarize ourselves with it. This will be done in class as a Daily 5 choice and is NOT homework.
