Bookmark Assignment

In class today, students were given an assignment to make a bookmark. The directions, rubric and examples are attached. The bookmark must be created on 3×8 card stock paper (given in class today) to be eligible for full points.

This is a summative grade and is due to me by Monday when they come to class. For many of them, this is a VERY EASY way to improve their current grade before progress reports are generated next Friday.

Please email me with any questions that you have.

Welcome Class of 2022!!

Whew…..we made it through the first week of school!!!

This first few days we had a whirlwind of activity, learning classroom rules and procedures, getting a new reading book for the first card-marking, as well as getting to know each other.

Students were reminded of their summer learning assignment expectations, and they will begin to do their book talks on Monday. Please see earlier blog post for more information.

I have also attached the class syllabus that was handed out on Tuesday (just in case you didn’t see it yet).

Please email me with any questions that you have and I look forward to meeting you all at next weeks Open House.

Final Outsiders Test is Tomorrow

This is just a reminder that the final test for the “Outsiders” is tomorrow. If your student is currently in Mackinac, we have already discussed their plan to make up this test. Most of them will be asking you for a ride to get here at 7:15 on Monday morning.
All students not on the trip have been told they need to be in school for the test. If they are sick and cannot attend school tomorrow they may make it up on Monday at 7:15 am ONLY.
If they miss this opportunity, they will be unable to take the final test and may receive a ZERO. This test is worth 40 summative points.

Outsiders CER

All students (in class today, or not) must complete the “Outsiders” CER on Google Classroom. This is due before midnight tonight. If you do not have a copy of the book, please reference the online text available in an earlier blog post and use the page numbers accordingly.

Please let me know ASAP if you have any questions.

Final Literary Letter

Final Literary Letter-Reflection on the Year

For the final card-marking Literary Letter you will still write in letter format (with Dear Mrs. Corriveau, write specific paragraphs and sign your name), but the focus will be more reflective on your year of reading.

Please use the following outline:

Dear Mrs. Corriveau,

Paragraph #1-Describe yourself as a reader. How often do you read and where/when do you like to read? Tell me here how many books you have completed this year and which one was your favorite?

Paragraph #2-Describe what you do when you hit a “roadblock” in your reading. Either a boring book, or very challenging vocabulary.

Paragraph #3- Tell me what you think has been your greatest accomplishment this year as far as reading? What have you done to help make this accomplishment possible?

Paragraph #4-Reflect on how you have changed from the beginning of the year to the end of the year as a reader. This could include how you read, how much you read, how you handled “roadblocks”….etc. If you feel no changes have taken place, please tell me what it is you do that makes you successful as a reader and what your plan is to keep that up once you head to high school.

Sincerely,

Your name here 🙂

Please remember your final literary letter follows a different format (above) and is due tomorrow when you walk through the door.

Required Weekend Reading/Homework

At this point in the school year, it is critical that all students stay up to date with classroom work, even when they are absent.

Many students have been gone recently due to school related events and/or sick. All work still has to be done. As we are quickly approach the end of the school year, we have little wiggle room.

Students can find today’s work in google classroom. In addition, all students need to read all of chapter 5 before they return to school on Monday.
Students can find the full text of the novel in a post from earlier this week.

Again, it is imperative that all students keep up to date with their work, even when they are absent. Failure to do so may result in lower grades for this 6th and final card-marking.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Then and Now Price Chart

Please find attached an assignment given in class today. All students must research the starred items to find their current price.
Then they must complete a chart showing the percent of change in the price for each. An example and a formula have been provided.

In addition they must answer all of the “whom would you choose?” questions on the other side and give a brief reason as to why they chose that character.

Please let me know asap if there are any questions.

This is due Monday when they walk through the door.
