Classwork for 03-23-20

Happy Monday! Thank you to everyone who did the assignment that had you reach out to someone you care about over the weekend. I enjoyed reading your responses and I hope that it helped you feel connected to someone you care about during this crazy time.

If you are behind on work, please just work on them as you can and continue to turn them in. I understand all of this is overwhelming and I appreciate you for working on what you can at this time. I hope you find these resources and assignments interesting, informative, and not too stressful. Please reach out if you need anything. We are continuing to learn about the Japanese internment camps today. Here’s our next assignment!

Classwork for 03-20-20

Happy Friday! Today the first 3 questions about the Japanese internment camps should be completed on iLearn. If you are having difficulty with any of the links, please let me know.

Today’s Assignment:
Over the weekend I would like you to focus on family. I want you to call, FaceTime, or chat with someone in your family. Maybe it is someone you have not talked to in awhile or someone you talk to every day, but have not asked them how they have been lately. Check on them, ask them how they are feeling, and share with them how you are feeling. Tell them a funny joke or a story. Spend some quality time with them (safely).

On iLearn there is a section for you to share what you did, who you talked to, and how it went. The section is called Conversations & Interviews and the assignment is called A Conversation with a Family Member.

My hopes are that by reaching out to people we care about it will help our mental health and keep us focused on something positive. Stay safe & healthy out there! Talk to you all Monday.

Classwork for 03-18-20

Hi everyone. I hope this finds you well and in good health. If you have not worked on the 1st assignment from Monday, please do so as soon as you can. It will tie up the end of WWII and lead us into the Cold War a bit. I realized that we did not spend enough time discussing the Japanese internment camps here in the U.S. during WWII. So today I plan to back up a bit to cover them. I will post a few resources with reflection questions about them. You will analyze primary sources and read information about the internment camps to answer the questions. Remember to Think like a Historian!

Today’s Assignment:
1.) Log onto iLearn to answer the questions related to the links posted. This is the easiest place for me to keep track of assignments right now.
2.) Click on the Japanese Internment Camps topic. Answer the questions in the 1st three sections:
Introduction to Japanese Internment Camps
Manzanar Free Press Article with Question
War Relocation Pamphlet & Questions
3.) These will be due by Friday, 03-20-20 if possible. Let me know if you have issues!

I will be adding more on Friday. Stay healthy my friends.

Updates from the District: (That sounds a bit Hunger Games, no?)
1.) Fordson High School is offering families who need a Chromebook a chance to pick up a Chromebook for school work on Thursday, 03-19-20 & Friday, 03-20-20 from 10am-1pm. Parents must be present and you will need school ID in order to receive one per family. The pickup location will be the back parking lot near the Freshmen Academy. Please reach out if you need more information.

2.) Don’t forget that Dearborn Public Schools will offer free pickup breakfast and lunch to all of our students at any of following six school locations: Fordson High School, Dearborn High, Edsel Ford High School, McCollough/Unis Middle School, Salina Intermediate and Woodworth. The grab-and-go meals will be available from 10 a.m. to noon from now through April 3rd. Hopefully they will extend it over spring break (April 6th through 10th).

This is a great resource and if it can be useful to your family any child age 18 or younger is invited to receive a meal. Be sure to bring your younger siblings along with you so you can all have enough to eat.
