- The quiz was postponed until Monday 11/27 so you can have more time to review
- Make sure to check the I can statements that should guide you on what to review
- The following homework is due Monday 11/27 and it was picked as a practice to section 2.1-2.4 so you can review for your quiz
- Homework should be done on loose leaf with your name, hour , date and the following title: Quiz Review Practice Problems: section 2.1-2.4
- page 246: 1,2,5,8,9,12,16,25,29,30,31,32
- page 247: 63,65
- page 225: 1-6 Quick review
- Homework due Tuesday 11/28 practice section 2.6 (not included in Monday’s Quiz) p 225# 23-30
Author Archives: Sarah Chocor
Today’s Class: Monday 11/20
- SAT Bell work BW Mon 11-20
- We started section 2.6 and I modeled one problem for you when we had a rational functions and we had to sketch it after finding different features (check notes) Section 2.6_day1_sample problem_Mon 11-20
- Then students worked as a group and had to complete another problem (similar to sample problem) Section 2.6_day1_Practice problem_Mon 11-20
Today’s Class: Thursday 11/16 and Friday 11/17
- BW BW Thu 11-16
- BW Fri 11-17
- For the past 2 days we have been doing homework corrections for section 2.4 textbook problems. I am posting students’ work below. This is what students completed up on the board and we discussed as a class. You might see Duplicate because students in different hours did problems using different methods.Section 2.4_day 3-4_Thu 11-16-11-17_Homework corrections
Today’s Class Wednesday 11/15 (Late start)
- Bellwork graphing polynomial functions on the calculator then zooming in to view all x intercepts BW Wed 11-15
- Students worked on completing page 194#43 through 52 to practice finding x intercepts of polynomial functions (zeros) using the calculator
- Then we talked about Remainder theorem (review from algebra 2) and I modeled number 13 for you and here are the notes Section 2.4_day 2_Wed 11-15_Remainder Theorem
- Homework p205#13 through 18. Find the remainder using 2 different methods: synthetic division and remainder theorem.
Today’s Class: Tuesday 11/14
- SAT bell work: factoring a cubic polynomial without a given factor. I grouped students in 2 big groups depending on the way they solved it, then we had one representative of each group writing the solution. Click here to view both methods.BW Tue 11-14
- We used the bellwork question to introduce The Rational Zero Theorem (section 2.4). Click here for the notes.Section 2.4 notes_day 1_Tue 11-14
- Also the notes include hints fir the homework
- Homework p205 quick review 5 through 10
- page 205 #26-27
- page 205#7 through 12
Today’s Class: Monday 11/13
- bellwork: factoring polynomials of higher degree using synthetic division, common factor, x method, special case BW Mon 11-13
- Students went up on the board and graphed polynomials from factored form or standard form after factoring them Graphing polynomials_multiplicity_factoring_key
- finish corrections if you left early for the assembly
Today’s Class: Friday 11/10
- Bellwork: review of synthetic division and how to factor a cubic polynomial BW Fri 11-10
- Students took test 1 corrections or retake
- Students worked on graphing polynomial worksheet after finishing their test. If you did not finish it, do it for homework.
- Graphing polynomials_multiplicity_factoring2
Today’s Class: Wednesday 11/8
- SAT Bellwork BW Wed 11-8
- I modeled one problem on how to graph a polynomial function (without a calculator) using the x intercepts, end behavior and y intercept and here are the notes Section 2.3 Wed 11-08
- Homework: Review synthetic division of polynomials by watching this video. Click here.
Today’s Class: Monday 11/06
- SAT Bell work BW Mon 11-6
- I passed back the chapter 1 test and students had 15 minutes to look at their mistakes and decide whether they need to retake it or do corrections on Friday. Students also asked me questions about their responses.
- Some students had to leave early or come late because of Detroit Mercy meeting. If you missed some of the class time you have to make up the class work. Look below.
- Students worked on finding the zeros of some polynomial functions Section 2.3 Mon 11-06
- Homework page 193 # 33-38
Chapter 1 Test Corrections/Retake
- Tests are graded and the average was around 60% in both classes
- The highest grade was 88% (Hadil Harajli 3rd hour Great Job!)
- I will allow you to choose either to make corrections or to fully retake the test
- You will have a chance to look at your test for 10 min before we start
- Corrections and test retakes will take place tomorrow in class this is why I will not be assigning any homework for tomorrow except preparing for the retake
- With test corrections you will only earn half credit back
- Only 5 points out of 39 were word problems
- Everything on the test we covered it with our homework and homework feedback/corrections/discussions
- I highly advise you to go back to each section and redo couple of each set of homework problem
- For this chapter we did one objective for 2 days
- Focus on the inverse functions (the rational one #15,16 page 126)
- Also make sure to review how to find composition of functions (15-22 page 117)
- For word problems make sure to review section 1.7 and to think about the problem in a real word situation; do not detach it from a real world. For example, some of the answers on the test found a salary before the raise greater than the salary after the raise which is not logical.
- Read the question VERY CAREFULLY
- Transformations were easy 8 summative points on the test; make sure to carefully review section 1.6. Many of you lost easy points because they forget to mention reflection over the x axis or vertical strecth…
- You can review p 137#43-50 I will post a pic of the key at the end of the day. I want you to think about those first before looking at the key.
- Also make sure to review the 3 rules on how to find horizontal asymptote; these were easy 4 points
Good Luck 🙂
