Good Morning!

The Third Card Marking has begun! Please sign up for Parent Connect (if you haven’t already done so) to make sure that your child is completing all of their assignments. (Many of the children in the class are already behind, not a good way to start the card marking!)

Also, writing enrichment and art has teamed up with a fun activity for the students. They will be creating Valentine Cards for our senior citizens at Beaumont Commons! Please ask your child about the activity and when the cards are done, we have a drop box in the school lobby!

Many of the senior citizens are isolated and lonely during this pandemic, so a Valentine Card will cheer them up! Thank you for your support of this very worthy project.

Have a great weekend and as always, contact me if you have any questions.

Good Morning!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Just an important note:

Report cards will be distributed in the lobby on Monday and Tuesday afternoon from 12-3 pm.

Please make sure your child continues to do 20-30 minutes of iReady per day and one lesson on Zearn each day. This is in addition to their math and language arts homework assignments. Social Studies and Science rotate every other week, so they will also have asynchronous work to do in these areas as well.

Thank you for your continued support and let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hello Parents!

Just to let you know, today is the last day of the 2nd Report Card Marking. Please remind your child to turn in all papers, quizzes, etc. by 4:00 pm today in order to get credit for it!

Here is also a message from Mrs. Bush:

Dear parents,We will be launching our second book club and have added 2nd grade for this round. Please sign up by Monday if interested:

Please keep in mind, if your child was involved with the first book club, they are not eligible to sign up for this round.

Save the date: Today was a half day Teacher Duty Day to prepare for report cards. Monday will be a half day for teachers to attend Professional Development. Tuesday will be a WHOLE day.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Sunday!

Greeting Parents! I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Just a quick note to remind everyone what we as a class are working on each day.

Each day we have SYNCHRONOUS work that we complete together on Zoom. This would be Language Arts and Math. Every Tuesday and Thursday we meet SYNCHRONOUSLY to do either Science or Social Studies.

The rest of the day your child will be working ASYNCHRONOUSLY. That means that they are working individually to complete each days assignments. They will have Math Homework in their SUCCEED book each day to complete. They will need to study their spelling words each day to prepare for the test on Friday. They may have a Language Arts assignment to do. They MUST do a lesson a day on Zearn and they MUST do at least 20-30 minutes per day on iReady. Hopefully, they are also reading for pleasure as well as reading their assigned reading from their reading group.

Please help your child get organized by checking with them each day to see that they have completed ALL of their work in their daily folder. So many of the children are neglecting many of their assignments and it is becoming concerning! Our 2nd Card Marking is upon us and any unsubmitted work will go into Gradebook as a zero, which will significantly affect your child’s scores on their report card. I have been attempting to send messages on Class Dojo to you to let you know your child is behind. Please check these messages frequently!

Thank you for your support. I continue to strive to reach out to each of you on a consistent basis. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the start of a brand new year. Just a reminder that school begins tomorrow morning at 8:55 am.

Make sure that your child has read any material that they need to read for their Reading Groups, because reading groups resume tomorrow as well.

We will have Distribution Day on Tuesday, January 5th in the Lobby from 10am-2pm. You can pick up your child’s new materials that they will need for the next few weeks. (If you are unable to pick up materials due to your work schedule, please send me a message on Class Dojo and I can put it in the office for you to pick up at a later time.)

We will be NWEA testing and DRA testing soon for the winter, so hopefully, your child has been reading 30 minutes per night and also doing iReady for 20-30 minutes per day. Zearn practice can help them with math and I have been assigning that practice everyday and will continue to expect the class to be working on that daily.

Since we are starting back from a 2 week holiday, I will be reviewing expectations with your child tomorrow morning. I will be discussing the need to be on time for online classes, keeping the camera on, participating in discussions, checking the daily folder on Schoology for assigned work and the need to have a quiet table or desk to work from during our online sessions. I will also discuss the need to turn in work in a timely manner. It is also important that your child visit the courses for Writing Enrichment, Art, Music and Physical Education. Work needs to be done in a timely manner for these subject areas as well. I would appreciate your support by discussing these expectations with your child tonight.

As usual, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me via email at chasen@dearbornschools.org OR via Class Dojo. Thank you for your continued support.

Happy Holidays!

Hello Parents! We are ready for a well deserved break! I just want to thank each and every one of you for the tremendous support you have provided to your child during this year of “Virtual Learning”. I am so thankful that you have supported me in my efforts to provide a normal, classroom-like environment for your child. This year has not been easy, but we have risen above the turmoil to achieve tremendous progress! I applaud your efforts and those of your child!

When we return to school on January 4th, we will resume our normal schedule beginning at 8:55 each morning. We will need to distribute more materials, but our method will be different in 2021. Mr. Ali Mashour, our Parent Liaison, will be distributing materials to 4th and 5th graders on Tuesday, January 5th from 10 am till 2 pm in the Lobby by the Office. You will be able to pick up 3 more Math books, 2 more Language Arts magazines and a protractor for your child to use in the upcoming weeks. Some of the children have a yearbook or class pictures to pick up. All of this will be available for pickup on Tuesday, January 5th.

Again, I can’t thank you enough for all you have done in 2020 and we will look forward for a wonderful, productive year in 2021. Have a wonderful holiday season and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate….. Happy New Year to all!!
