Work on Writing

Parents,

Today your child is coming home with a work on writing journal, some may be completely filled and other may not be totally filled in yet. They may keep these at home to use and continue working on their writing skills. We are going to get new ones in class to start fresh since many of us have filled our 1st one up and are ready.

Thanks!

Classroom updates

Parents,

With all these snow/cold/ice days we have had recently I wanted to make sure we are all on the same page with events coming up and happenings inside the classroom!

Homework: This week they will ONLY have spelling homework- an assignment will be coming home attached to their spelling list that should be completed and returned. Spelling test is going to be on Wednesday.

Valentine’s Day: I will be out of the building in the AM at a PD (and of course we only have a 1/2 day that day). The students will still be passing out Valentines to their friends and having a celebration. Because I am not going to be here, I ask that parents do not join us for this celebration (we will have an end of year celebration all can attend!).  They will be decorating bags to collect their treats in together, you do not need to send anything in.

February & March: Weather permitting, the rest of February and March should run as usual!

We are VERY excited that Mrs. Smith will be rejoining us for parts of our day the rest of this month and next. She is making the transition from her long term position in Kindergarten into our classroom. My official due date is April 9th, the plan (if baby cooperates) is for me to be here until Spring Break so my last day before maternity leave begins will be March 29th! Of course, you cannot plan these things, if she decides she will not be making her grand entrance on time, I may be here a few days following spring break. As far as the class will be told- my last day is March 29th, I do not want them to get their hopes up I will be here after Spring Break when I cannot make any guarantees. I will keep you updated as the time gets closer 🙂

Lunch Menu Changes

Parents,

Due to the snow days last week there have been some changes to the lunch menu this week. The menu for the week is below:

Monday ~ bosco and grilled cheese
Tuesday ~ Halal Taco and grilled cheese
Wednesday ~ cheesy garlic flat bread and to be determined
Thursday ~ cheese pizza and cheese pocket
Friday ~ Fish and cheese pocket

Holiday Celebration

NWEA Review

Parents,

Our Winter NWEA test is going to come up fast!! We will begin testing after our 2 week break! I am going to begin preparing review packets for the break (they will be leveled based on what your child’s personal goal is- these will take me probably until break to individualize). In the mean time PrepDog is an AMAZING site to have your child practicing on! The class is having a race to 50 for DOJO points! If you have your child on PrepDog practicing, send me a message and I can give them a dojo point as an incentive to get some extra practicing in! I have attached the link below:

Haigh Gives Back

Good Morning Haigh Community,

It’s that time of year to reflect on how lucky we are, and those of us who are able, can help those in need. This year, Haigh students will be participating in two different drives to help our community. The 2 drives that we are participating in are, “The Rainbow Connection Toy Drive,” and “Battle Against Hunger.” The toy drive is dedicated to giving back to Michigan children with life threatening illnesses. If you would like to donate a toy, please send your unwrapped donated in with your child. The canned food drive is in partnership with Dearborn High School to raise money for Amity and Zaman food pantry’s.

We will have collection boxes set up in our main hallway for these two important drives. Please see the flyer below for more detailed information about items that can be donated. Thank you everyone for your help in giving back to those in need!

Click on the link below, which will take you to Mr. Short’s blog post that includes a specific link for each drive with more details:

1st grade math test

Parents,

The first graders completed their study guide today and did a wonderful job! There test will be Thursday afternoon. The study guide we completed will come home today- I attached a practice page to the front (they should be able to complete within 10-15 minutes). The study guide follows the exact same format as the test, if they are able to talk you through the study guide, they will be very well prepared for the test.
