PBIS PARTY

Parents,

For the month of March our PBIS celebration is game day! Students will be celebrating this in the classroom on Thursday (3-29). We have had such fantastic behavior this year, as a class we decided students may bring in hand held electronic devices to play games on (I-pad, Nintendo switches, etc). Students will not be allowed to share their devices with other students, we do not want any items to be damaged or broken. Please make sure your electronic devices are charged and ready to go for the day if you decide to send them in.

We would LOVE to have board games sent in that students would be able to share and play with their friends. If you are bringing a board game in for the day, please make sure it is labeled so we can get it back to the correct owner 🙂

If I do not see you before Thursday, have a wonderful spring break!

Science Review

Parents,

Ms. Otto made a fabulous jeopardy game that we played today to review for our science test on Friday. Here is the link if you would like to also play at home (test is for 1st grade only but Kindergarten has learned and played along)!

Conferences

Parents,

Conference forms went home today for those who will be meeting with me. Unfortunately, we only have 1 day of conferences for spring and I am only able to meet with a few families. If you did not receive a conference form but would like to touch base, please send me a dojo message and we can set something up.

If you did receive a conference form and the time does not work for you- please let me know so we can work something out.

Response Journals (1st)

First grade parents-

Please make sure your son or daughter is doing their response journals each night (many are so thank you so much!!). Reading comprehension is a very large component of the first grade reading skills we teach.

I have seen HUGE growth in those that are doing their journals each night, thank you!

PBIS Winter Carnival

Haigh Families,

On Monday, January 29th, we will be hosting our third annual HAIGH CARNIVAL for our January PBIS celebration. Students who have maintained positive behavior will have the opportunity to attend the carnival and play some awesome games and even win some prizes!

However, the event can only be a success with your help. We are in need of volunteers to help run stations at the carnival. If you are able to volunteer your time, it would also be appreciated. The time slots are as follows:

A.M. session – 8:35-11:15                          P.M. session – 12:50-3:25

We need 7 A.M. volunteers and 7 P.M. volunteers. If you are able to volunteer, please e-mail

Ms. Otto at ottoc@dearbornschools.org to sign-up 🙂

Thank you for all of your help and continued support!

Field Trip & Social Studies Test

Field Trip:

A permission slip is coming home today for our next field trip. It is a letter made by the first grade team but my Kindergarten students are also joining us!

Social Studies Test – 1st grade:

Students will be coming home with a study guide as soon as we are done creating it together in class 🙂

First Grade – Reading Response Journal

First grade parents,

Starting tomorrow your child will be coming home with a reading response journal. The journal should be kept in their reading bag along with their books and sight word sticker book.  There will be a  prompt provided to your child when we meet during small group and will be labeled with the date and title of the book. The students will answer the response question and draw a picture to accompany their response (if they would like). Ideally, we would love all responses to be completed that night so we can discuss it the next day in our reading groups but I understand that is not always possible.

Sample response questions:

-did you like this book? Why or why not?

-Make a connection to the story (what did it make you think of while you were reading)

-What is the problem in the story?

-In 3 sentences or less, tell what the story is about.

Thank you for your continued support! I am so proud of the progress they are making so far 🙂
