NWEA IS TOMORROW!

Tomorrow the kindergarten and first grade students will begin their NWEA math test.

Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest tonight and wakes up with a big, healthy breakfast to get their brains going in the morning! Please stress the importance of these tests to your child and encourage them to take their time, listen to the questions and do their best- the test is not a race.

Next week, we will take the reading NWEA test.  Wish us luck!!

Thank you for your continued support 🙂

REMINDER: FIELD DAY IS TOMORROW

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades

On May 14th, students need to wear clothes that will allow them to be physically active outside, including tennis shoes.  They need to bring a water bottle. Students are highly encouraged to bring a water bottle that can be refilled at the refill station that we will provide!

See everyone in the morning!

NWEA is coming! Please help support our review at home :)

It’s that time of year again – our third and final NWEA test(s) of the year! As a reminder, we take the test in two subject areas, reading and math. These are the two main content areas in which first grade focuses on, so we see a lot of growth in these areas throughout the course of the year. Now that the school year is quickly coming to a close, it is time for them to shine and show us everything they have learned this year 🙂

Testing is scheduled from May 14-May 24. I do not have a schedule of days and times yet, but it will be sometime within this time frame.

I have posted these resources before and emailed them to those who sent addresses, but I wanted to share them again because they are a great tool in preparing your child for these upcoming tests. They have worked on them with a partner during our Daily 5 rotations and math workshops. They are familiar with them and should be practicing them regularly.

Field Day

Dear Parents and Guardians,

To help us celebrate another fantastic school year, we will be having Field Day on Monday, May 14, 2018.  For this Field Day event students will work through stations with their class to develop skills they have learned in physical education and have tons of fun!  The schedule for the event is as follows:

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades

On May 14, students need to wear clothes that will allow them to be physically active outside, including tennis shoes.  They need to bring a water bottle. Students are highly encouraged to bring a water bottle that can be refilled at the refill station that we will provide.

We are looking for one parent from each classroom to donate a treat for the entire class to enjoy after their session.  We are also pre-selling Fla-vor-ice as a cool treat for students to enjoy during the activities. The cost for the Fla-vor-ice is $0.50, only one Fla-vor-ice per student please. Fla-vor-ice money is due by Monday, May 7.

Lastly, we need 15 parent volunteers for both sessions to help run stations.  If you are interested in volunteering, fill out the lower portion and return it to Mr. Peecher.  Please, contact Mr. Peecher with any questions.

Thanks!  The PBIS/Field Day Committee  peeches@dearbornschools.org

*We will only be able to accommodate students & parent volunteers for this event.

We are encouraging you to please pack a lunch for your child on this day to make it easier for them 🙂
Students may bring in blankets or towels to sit on during the event if they do not like sitting on the grass.

Kindergarten Readers

Kindergarten parents,

The majority of our class is excelling in reading and sight word recognition so it is time to begin preparing for those first grade reading expectations!

I am sending home a comprehension question page to help you when you are reading with your child at home 🙂 Please ask them 2-3 of these questions when they are finished with a book!

Thank you for your support at home!

Wolf Fundraiser

It’s time for the Penny/Nickel challenge!

This week, we are continuing our endangered animal adoption project. We are reusing milk jugs to collect money for adopting a wolf through the Detroit Zoo, and we need your help!

We are asking for your help with our penny/nickel challenge.

Bring in as many extra pennies or nickels as you can to help fill our jugs! At the end of the week, we’ll count up the totals and announce our winners!

Did you know???

A single wolf can eat up to 20 pounds of food in one sitting!

Market Day!

Please come and join the first graders (and k/1 split) as we celebrate the end of our Economics unit with Market Day! Market Day is all about determining wants and needs, producing goods and services and trading. Family and friends are invited to help celebrate the world of producers and consumers by shopping at our market from 9am-11am on Tuesday, April 24th. All goods will range from .10 cents to $1.00. All Haigh students will have the opportunity to shop at our market, so if your child would like to purchase something, please send them to school with their money. Hope to see you there!

To help make this event a success, we are in need of 16-20 parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering during the event on Tuesday from 8:45-11:00, please fill out the bottom portion of this sheet and return to your child’s teacher by Tuesday, April 17th.

We are also in desperate need of donated baked goods (cookies, brownies, cupcakes, chocolate covered pretzels, etc.). These goods can be produced at home with your child and brought to school Thursday or Friday (19th and 20th) morning. We will be selling these baked goods as part of our Market Day, so please wrap each baked good individually.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

_________ Yes, I am able to volunteer on Tuesday from 8:45-11:00.

You will find a paper copy of this note to return to school in your child’s folder this afternoon. All proceeds from our Market Day will go toward purchasing a bus for our last field trip of the year to help keep ticket prices as low as possible.

Thank you again for all of your support – it is truly appreciated!
