Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break! We are jumping right back into the swing of things and beginning our spelling tests this week. Each Monday you will get a spelling list sent home with your child’s weekly homework page. The spelling tests will be given every Friday. I will also post the words to the blog or dojo in case the list goes missing.

A permission slip form will be coming home today with a quick turn around time. We are headed to see the Click Clack Moo play at the end of the month but must purchase the tickets in advanced. Due to the limited seats left for the show, we are taking the classroom teacher, para, and 2 parent chaperones with us on this trip to help monitor students getting on and off the bus and using the restroom during the show. If you are interested in helping, please send me a DOJO message by the end of the day (1/6/2019) so I can put your name in a lottery and let the selected parents know. Parent volunteers must already have a background check completed on file and will also need to pay for the bus & play. If you are submitting your name to volunteer please know that younger siblings are not able to attend with us, and chaperones do need to ride the bus with the staff & students to help keep the class safe. I do not love the idea of limiting chaperones but it is necessary for this field trip and there is not much happening- we are going to have other classroom celebrations and field trips that parents will be able to attend :)! The field trip is AM only, we will be watching the show and heading directly back to school for lunch!

We will be spending the first few weeks in January testings students on their reading level, rhyming, letter sounds, and sight word abilities along with the Winter NWEA test. As soon as we have finished the testing we will realign our reading groups and books will begin coming home again 🙂 In the meantime, please continue to utilize our online resources (reading eggs & Raz-kids).
