Report Cards!

Report cards come home TODAY! Please sign the envelope and return on Tuesday.

(*** Just an added note about report cards- the standards I grade each marking period can be different so it is possible to go up or down grade wise in an area based on what I assessed. For example- Marking Period 1– “Numbers and Operations/Base 10” was graded on number lines and place value adding and subtracting where Marking Period 2 — was using the eureka math strategies we used like making a ten, compensation, and adding like units. Your child could have earned a 2 in marking period 1 but dropped to a 3 in marking period 2 because different standards were assessed. This goes for the ELA standards as well. I choose different standards during the marking periods based on what Benchmark/Eureka is focusing on in those units.)

Quick Updates

Since tomorrow is the field trip the spelling words for next week- U8W2 are coming home today with another spelling choice board. Next week they need to turn it in with FOUR boxes done.

I am sending these home a day earlier because you can check out from the museum and not come back to Howe tomorrow if you are chaperoning!

Spelling choice boards for U8W1 are due tomorrow morning still!

We are so excited for the field trip. Drop your child off like normal and meet us at the museum at 9:25-9:30 am by the clocktower entrance. We will pass off groups at that time.

Lots of struggles with coin identification and values this week. Practice this at home please! We move on to bills and they are still struggling with coins.

Friday Field Trip Plans!

Hello Families!

We are so excited about Fridays all school field trip! We wanted to update you on the final plan so we all know what to do….

*If possible please wear a Howe school shirt OR red shirt so we can easily find each other throughout the day.

*Please drop your child off at Howe at the normal time (8:20 am)

*Students will board the buses and leave around 9:15 am.

*All chaperones will be meeting us at the clocktower entrance benches at 9:30 am. Your child will have the tickets for you both.

*Teachers will hand off the students to chaperones and then people may begin entering the museum.

*Once inside make sure you are walking around and finding other Howe friends. Work on completing the scavenger hunt!

*At 12:30 pm please meet in Lunchroom A. (This is in the hallway by Michigan Cafe).

*The only place to purchase food is Plum Market. This is on the other side of the museum so you will have to carry the food over to the lunchroom if that is what you choose.

*At 1:30 pm please meet back at the clocktower entrance READY TO LEAVE. (*If you want to sign out your child and not have them come back to Howe please come around 1:20 so we can sign you out before we load buses.)

*All students not signed out by a parent will be taken back to Howe and dismissed like normal at 3:20 pm.

Please let your teacher know if you have any questions! We look forward to this experience with all of our Howe students.

:)

Happy Spring Break and Eid if you celebrate!

I hope everyone has a relaxing and wonderful week off.

School resumes Tuesday, April 1st for early release. (No… that’s not an april fools joke)

READ!

Book fair wish lists are coming home today. Please circle or highlight what you want your child to buy and send in in a ziplock bag or envelope labeled with name. We shop first thing tomorrow morning.

*We did not include trinkets or toys…. only books. You can send extra money if you want them to purchase those items too!

Math practice problems from last week are coming home today. I put on a post it note the strategy that I have seen your child be the most consistent with. We will do final problems on Thursday for final grade for report card. Practice each night until then! (It will include addition and subtraction problems).

All work has finally been graded and the rest comes home tonight!

End of Week Updates!

These weeks are FLYING by! I can not believe we finish Marking Period 3 next Friday before Spring break.

We finished Benchmark Unit 7 today. Books will be coming home and the work from the last two weeks. We have really been stressing about thinking about answers and writing complete sentences. We will not start Unit 8 until after Spring break so you will have no spelling choice boards for next week! They can focus on reading.

Reminder- Clover writing should be turned in on Monday. (It was in the packet with reading logs from the beginning of the month.)

For math we will be finishing up Module 4 before break. I will be grading some addition and subtraction problems next Thursday and they can do whatever strategy they want. I will encourage them to do the one they know best. You can practice problems before them just so they are prepared. After spring break we will begin Module 5- money and measurement. We will continue practicing 2/3 digit addition and subtraction during the montessori work time so it is still fresh in our brains before the IReady in May. We usually do practice problems on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Science we will have to continue over break. We have one more section to do and they will be excited to make glue a final time. Once we finish then we will move on to our last unit for Amplify Science.

Next week is Book Fair! Please sign up if you are able to help… we have lots of open spots.
