Class Shirts are HERE!

They will be coming home today!

We will be signing them in June… So just know I will ask for them back around memorial day so they can all sign each others shirts.

***If you didn’t purchase one you can get a plain, blank shirt from Michaels or Amazon and the students can sign that for your child.

End of Week Updates!

The weather is finally nice and we are getting into spring vibes in the classroom. We still have 5.5 more weeks of instruction and need to take both reading and math iready. It is super important we are continuing to follow the rules and finishing our work. I will be having fun activities mixed in to get us through each week, however it is imperative that the students remain following the classroom and school rules. We all want a fun end of the year but academics and continuing good behavior must come first!

Since we are mentioning the weather they did start the process for air conditioning! It was turned on and should be working by Monday. Keeping a sweater in lockers is a good idea just in case. The weather will be up and down for the next two weeks. But I wanted you to know that we do not have access to heat anymore… just air! (Which we are so thankful our building has!)

The class shirts have shipped and should be here the first full week of May!

We are right on schedule to finish Benchmark & Eureka squared right after Memorial Day! We will finish all of the last Social Studies unit and will get through at least half of the Amplify Science Landforms unit!

Reminder- Pages 4-6 (fun facts, important information, and sights to see) of the National Park Presentations are due on Monday!

Our class has earned the March is Reading month prize for reading the most minutes!!!! We will have a pizza party next Friday, May 2nd. We will get cheese pizza at 11:30 am and eat (hopefully) outside together with Ms. Adams class. (they also won the competition!). Your child should still bring some additional snacks with them to go with the pizza.

Looking forward to finishing up our remaining units and testing over this next month so your child can show how much they have learned this school year. Please let me know if you have any questions.Β

Have a great weekend!

Class Shirts

We only have 6 orders in and need at least 15 to place the order. If you don’t want to place online please email me. If you can place online please do so tonight so I can submit first thing tomorrow morning!

End of Week Updates!

This weather is so up and down. Thankful for at least sunshine πŸ™‚

Few quick reminders:

Shirt orders are due by Sunday please! Please order online through the link below:

https://www.customink.com/g/wrf0-00cy-az5x

We have no school tomorrow. Happy Easter for those who are celebrating on Sunday.

National Park pages 1-3 are due on Monday! Make sure names are on them. I will send them back once I check over them.

Bring coats DAILY. It’s so cold in the morning and warm by the end of the day. But some days we make it outside early before lunch if the kids finish all their work quickly.

Have a great weekend!

Quick News!

I have pages 2 (geology) and 4 (fun facts) for the National Park Project presentations. We did page 2 this morning and will be doing page 4 tomorrow. Our geology is linking with landforms since that is the 2nd grade standard. They added it to their papers and wrote sentences. Once we finish the fun facts page tomorrow they will come home to you. πŸ™‚

The Iready tests will be in May for us. PLEASE practice money, time, and addition/subtraction over the next few weeks. We are still practicing addition and subtraction in class but need to move on from money and time. You will see on the corrected papers today that MANY are struggling even with the coins and amounts hanging on the wall for them to see. For the last two weeks we have been using fake money to count and write the total amount.

Do not forget about spelling words and tests. We took off the week before and after spring break and many struggled. I drop the lowest test each marking period but many had a hard time.

Last reminder- NO SCHOOL on FRIDAY! So spelling choice boards will be due on Thursday.

End of Week Updates!

We have had such a busy two weeks since Spring Break! We are moving right along in curriculum and will be ready to take the IReady tests the beginning of May. For ELA we are focusing on the Montessori Grammar Unit. Identifying and giving examples for all parts of speech using the materials. We are also continuing reading a story from the Benchmark workbook and answering the questions about it. In Math our new module started with Coin and Dollar counting. We finish that up today and move on to Measurement o Monday. For science we are going to be working on Topic 2 of Physical Science- can you change things back. Next week we will do the experiment with this. For Social Studies we are focusing on the Economics unit and they talked about scarcity and choice with the sub on Wednesday.

Exciting announcement! I have designed class shirts again (those who with me for kinder know I always have one..) These shirts are sold online through a link and you can purchase by April 20th. We need to sell at least 14 more shirts to get the order printed and keep the cost at $17. I went with custom ink because it can all be done online (pay with card, apple pay, etc.). If you would rather send in cash then let me know. All shirts will be shipped to the school and the kids can sign the shirts. Hope you all can participate… please let me know if you can not afford the cost.

READ-National Park Presentations!

Hello Parents!

2nd grade is joining Upper Elementary for presentation this year. This is to better help the students understand how to do it before 3rd grade when they are expected to do it independently. Information and packets are COMING HOME TODAY!

A few things are going to be modified for this… I will type it out here and did my best to note it in the packet.

*We have started researching our parks but we are much more inexperienced with the internet. We have used epic and the national park service website. We logged on three times and have searched for information on our parks. This will be guided with you at home for most of the research. (*we also talked about trusted websites and only to google next to mom/dad… very important to remember this).

*For the Bubble mapping due April 14- we started… but you help your child for this.

*We will discuss overview, geology, and weather in class before these pages are due but you help your child do the pages with your specific park information. (Same applies to pages 4-6).

*You are only responsible for the trifold board & diorama. I recommend searching pinterest for those words to give you examples of what to do if you do not know… for board search trifold board & for diorama search National Park diorama. Both searches will give you examples. I already have shown the students the examples also. It would be a model of the parks features.

*I have attached papers for the writing part of the trifold boards. (*make copies if needed… I will not be giving out anymore).

*Please email with any questions…

******Reminder— all of the writing should be done by your child! You will be marked down if it is written by a parent.

*This project covers many grades! Speaking & Listening, Earth Science, Informational Reading & Writing, and Graphing for the weather. The checklist I am using to grade you is the last paper- purple. If you have those components then your child do great πŸ™‚

Report Cards!

Report cards come home TODAY! Please sign the envelope and return on Tuesday.

(*** Just an added note about report cards- the standards I grade each marking period can be different so it is possible to go up or down grade wise in an area based on what I assessed. For example- Marking Period 1– “Numbers and Operations/Base 10” was graded on number lines and place value adding and subtracting where Marking Period 2 — was using the eureka math strategies we used like making a ten, compensation, and adding like units. Your child could have earned a 2 in marking period 1 but dropped to a 3 in marking period 2 because different standards were assessed. This goes for the ELA standards as well. I choose different standards during the marking periods based on what Benchmark/Eureka is focusing on in those units.)
