These weeks seem to be flying by…. so fast. I can not believe next week is already valentines week.
Lots of things coming home today…. most important being the Iready scores. I was so excited to see how many of their scores went up and they did better. We are going to continue to work on things and practice the standards that I know are addressed in both the Iready assessment and what is graded on report cards. The next step for most of them in the reading test is going to be to write a sentence answer and type it into the computer. If they have a purple box on iready pathways to practice that means that will come up on their spring test. We will start practicing this in class to get used to it so I can assist them in this process as well. It is all a learning curve and not as simple as choosing the right answer once they get to a certain level. As for the math scores we did not do any of the geometry lessons before taking the test which included time. So many missed those questions simply because we had not covered this. We will continue practicing those and reviewing before the spring even though our next module is back to adding and subtracting. Overall as long as their score went up I was pleased with the progress. I know they tried their best and testing is never easy. Please email me if you have any questions.
Even with missing the day we are going to keep pushing ahead. Next week Valentines are due by Wednesday (2/12) please! Make sure the bag is labeled so I know who is passing them out. Each child should have 19 to pass out. We have lots of cute projects to do throughout the week talking about kindness and what we love about ourselves.
Make sure you are subscribed to the school blog… They post lunch choices each morning and with the days off and deliveries being affected I have had some complaints from students that the choice isn’t what the paper calendar says. Lunch is posted everyday around 730 am so you know before school in case a lunch from home is wanted.
We did science experiments this week and it was QUITE THE MESS! But fun… the pictures were posted on the school instagram if you haven’t seen them yet 🙂
In social studies more practice to come with map reading. That homework was supposed to be a review… those were the first grade standards (knowing north/south/east/west and answering questions related to a map). I will find more practice for us to do in that area while we continue on with the social studies lessons. Some will be done in class and some will come home for homework. We are trying to squeeze in so much that occasionally I’m gonna have to send home undone things like that just because we ran out of time.
Last– Field trip papers to The Henry Ford Museum are not due until the 21st. If you DO NOT send in money I will assume no one is chaperoning and put your child in a group with others.
Have a great weekend! <3
