End of Week Updates!

Hello families! We have had a fabulous first week of second grade! I am so excited at the possibilities for this year… your children ready to learn and excited. This week we spent time learning classroom routines and procedures. We also learned a lot about each other since we have new friends joining us from other Dearborn schools. Next week we will jump in to some of our curriculum and Montessori work times.

This week we had a visit from Superintendent Maleyko! He came in while we were partner working on fortune tellers. He reminded us 2nd grade is a fun year to to keep doing our best. His Instagram picture he took is attached at the bottom of this post.

A few important reminders:

Planners need to be signed nightly by a parent!

We have NO SCHOOL on Friday & Monday. (Labor Day)

On Tuesday the first lunch choice will be breakfast that will either be waffles/pancakes & sausage instead of grilled cheese.

Have a GREAT long weekend!

Reminders for Tuesday!

We have our first full day of school tomorrow!

Please check backpacks tonight. They will have their yellow daily folders and planners. Lots of important papers to read over and you will need to sign their planners nightly. We will be writing in homework, updates, and important information. Less blog posts in second grade and more responsibility of giving parents planners each night and discussing the important things with you! (I will still post in the beginning until we get into the routine).

Don’t forget to send in a snack for the afternoons and refillable water bottle DAILY.

Dismissal is 3:20 pm!

Information for Monday- First Day of School!

You may begin dropping off at 8 am for breakfast. Please drop them off at Door 18. They walk down the corridor and a staff member will be at the door to open it for them. The students will have breakfast until 8:20 and then be dismissed to their classroom. Any student dropped off after 8:20 am will need to go to the playground doors and be buzzed in by the office. No parents are allowed to enter the building. Once the door unlocks your child may come in the doors and staff members will be present to help them find our classroom if they do not already know how.

2nd grade dismisses from Door 18 again. Kindergarten will dismiss a few minutes early since they take a little longer. We will be out between 11:25-11:30 am. Please pull all the way up so all cars can fit in the parking lot. No Montessori parents should park in the parking spots…. Those are reserved for Developmental preschool who arrives and dismisses after the Montessori. Once our class comes outside your child will fist bump me and let me know that they see Mom, Dad, etc. Then you are free to leave. Reminder to just be patient. It takes a couple of days to figure out arrival and dismissal for our new parents. It will get faster the more we practice it. If their is not room in the parking lot please do not stop on Ann Arbor Trail. You can loop around the block or park across the street at the Mosque until more space opens in the parking lot. We stay with the kids until 5 minutes after dismissal time. After that we escort them to the office and call.

****If your child has an older sibling in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade. They will be picked up by their older sibling and dismissed outside of Door 20 (by the STEM doors.) Once you pull into the other parking lot security guards will be present to guide you down the sidewalk. You will pull as far forward as possible and line up that way. Once the siblings come out they will come to your car.

Please make sure that you are subscribed to the Howe School blog as well. That has a post with maps and more details about arrival and dismissal.

A couple of quick things:

Please send in a change of clothes labeled in a ziplock bag for your child’s locker.

If you have not sent in supplies you can do that next week also.

Monday is a half day dismissal is at 11:30 am.

(Sorry if you are a returning parent and know some of this already… Just trying to make sure things are as smooth as they can be for the first week of school).

As always please email me if you have any questions! I am super excited and looking forward to a GREAT year in second grade with all of you.
