Field Day

Permission slips are coming home today for Thursday’s field day. Please return the slips by tomorrow. If your student is absent today, you can text the classroom phone or send an email giving permission for them to attend. Here are some key points for the day:

  • We will be in the sun most of the day, please come to school with sunscreen already applied.
  • If your son/daughter does not want to participate, they may stay home. Please just text us (313-701-7985) and we will mark them excused. It is usally a fun time, but it is not for everyone. There will be no one left back in the room.
  • Please eat breakfast. We will be leaving at 9 a.m., therefore we will not have much time for a snack before we leave.
  • Lunch will be provided (halal hot dog and chips)
  • Students may wish to bring a larger snack or lunch for later in the day
  • PLEASE DO NOT FORGET WATER BOTTLES and make sure they are labeled with students name.
  • We will do our best to find a shady spot for students to take a break. We will bring some extra water and a few chairs for those that need it. I am currently checking with transportation to see if there is room on the bus for all students to bring a chair if needed. I will update you tomorrow.
  • We will not be in the building after 9 a.m. If your student arrives late, there will be no one in the classroom. Please do not drop off late students on Thursday.

If your son/daughter does not wish to participate, please let us know and they will be excused for the day.

Dearborn Specials

Hello! Many of you have started to ask about activities that are available for your student over the summer. Dearborn Specials (located at the Ford Performing Arts building) has many activities – bowling, swimming, dances, bingo, art classes and more! We will be sending home the brochure and the calendar for May – July next week. For more information please follow this link: https://dearbornfordcenter.com/pages/58-dearborn-specials

Reminder! Prom RSVP’s are due today. If you haven’t RSVP’d yet please do so as there will be no exceptions for late comers: https://ameliasprom2023.rsvpify.com

Field trip permission slips and money are due on Monday! Students may bring additional money the day of the field trip (May 15) for snacks. If you’ve been to the movies lately, you know concessions are expensive. I would suggest students bring $15-$20 to cover the cost of food. That being said, snacks are optional and we will be eating lunch before we go. Students will still need to bring a lunch to school that day.

April 18, 2023 – Important Medicaid Information

Medicaid to again require annual renewals

During the pandemic, Michigan stopped requiring families to annually renew their Medicaid benefits.

Michigan will soon restart Medicaid eligibility renewals and certain waived policies that were in place during the pandemic. The first renewals begin in June and each family has a different renewal month. Renewals are time sensitive and urgent for families to update in order to maintain their Medicaid coverage.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is starting to mail notifications to families about the renewed renewal requirements.  The department is asking for help to tell families to watch for this important paperwork and to make sure they complete and return the required forms.

Families who do not complete the forms by their deadline will lose Medicaid coverage.Learn more on the MDHHS website.

Work Uniforms: Students who are new to working at Modern Greek/Paradise Point (and those who needed a replacement) will be coming home with their uniform t-shirt today. They should wear it every time they are scheduled to work, and it should be washed after every wear. If your student serves as a sub, it can be kept in his/her backpack since their schedule can be unpredictable.

Personal Hygiene: Students should be showering daily and wearing a clean outfit every day. Some students are wearing the same outfit day after day and some have not showered in quiet some time. This can be typical for our students, but it is important to teach them the responsibility of taking care of themselves. Poor hygiene will ultimately affect the way our students are perceived, it will affect their ability to find and keep employment as well as making and keeping friends.

Upcoming Dates:

April 7 – No School – Good Friday

April 20-21 – No School – Eid

April 26 – Late Start

May 17 – Late Start

May 18 – Special Needs Prom – details to come

May 26-29 – No School – Memorial Day Weekend

June 1 – Field Day at EFHS

June 15 – Last Day – 1/2 Day Dismissal (11:30)

April 3, 2023

Hello! We hope you all enjoyed the break! We are in the home stretch, with 11 weeks to go and it’s going to go fast! I’m not wishing time away, but I am looking forward to warmer days and more sunshine! Here are just a few reminders for this short week:

Phone: I just turned “read receipts” on our classroom phone, which will let you know (in most cases) we’ve seen your texts. When you text to let us know a student has been dropped of late or will be picked up early, you can now see that we’ve seen your message and are expecting your student to arrive or we are in the process of sending them down to you. For other matters, we will respond as soon as possible, typically within the hour.

Also, we still have some families calling our paraprofessionals on their personal cell phones. Per district policies, all communication should be through the classroom phone at 313-701-7985.

Grocery Ads: All students should bring in 1-2 grocery ads by Thursday 4/6 , in order to complete an assignment. If you have extras, or happen to run through the grocery store and can grab a handful, it would be greatly appreciated. We use grocery ads all the time to teach food groups, shopping, sale prices, dollar up, etc. Thank you!

Upcoming Dates:

April 7th – No School, Good Friday

April 20, 21 – No School, Eid

April 26 – Late Start

May 17 – Late Start

May 26-29 – No School, Memorial Weekend

June 15 – Last Day of School, half day dismissal
