Sad News

We received word today, that a former student passed away last week. The news came through “the grapevine” as some of the students arrived this morning, and we were able to confirm with a reliable source a short while later. We made a formal announcement to the students this afternoon and shared some tears together. While I don’t want to share her name publicly, most of the students have known her for a long time. She was a wonderful student, very loving and kind, and always made us smile. We send her family our condolences, may she rest in peace.

Hello! Time got away from me this afternoon so I will keep this short. Due to an oversight on our part, we did not have busing to attend our weekly job sites today. This time of year, the buses are used for high school students who have testing and half days. We will not have CBI on Tuesday April 16th for the same reason, and we will resume our normal schedule on April 17th. Because of this, some students had lunch and others did not – so students were treated to pizza for lunch today! Most will probably bring home their packed lunch, unless they decided to eat it during a break!

Please don’t forget about the parent meeting next Tuesday the 16th – see previous blog post for details. This will be full of great information and is recommended for every parent! It will be right here at Hype at 10 a.m.!

Other than early release on Tuesdays, there are no upcoming dates this month that you need to be aware of, but please see the previous post for the days we have scheduled through the end of the year. I will attach it again next week.

Have a great weekend!

Special Education Parent Meeting

Please see below regarding a Special Education Parent meeting held here at Hype on 4/16/24. This is valuable information and I encourage everyone who has a student in the transition program to attend! A hard copy of this letter will be sent home today, and was also sent through Remind just a few moments ago.

Hello! Just a few reminders as we head in to the weekend…

Cell Phones: We reviewed our policy with the students this afternoon. They are doing a great job but sometimes they can be a distraction. Students are allowed to use their phones during breaks, leisure time, and lunch. When we are in class, at job sites or in the community, they are not to be on their phone at all as this is instruction time. It also prepares them for future employment which is one goal of our program.

Facebook Page: We have recently deleted our classroom Facebook page. With the increased number of Facebook pages getting compromised, we no longer felt it safe putting content out for the public. That doesn’t mean we don’t want to brag about our students! Keep your eyes open for new ways we will be sharing their successes!

Checking In/Out: Just a friendly reminder, for the safety of our staff and students, all visitors must check in at the front desk. Students leaving early for appointments will be escorted down to the lobby. Please text the classroom phone when you arrive and we will bring them down.

Upcoming Dates:

April 9, 10 – No School – Eid

May 27 – No School – Memorial Day

May 30 – Field Day at EFHS

June 5 – Class Picnic (Details TBA)

June 7 – Last Day of School – 1/2 Day

Have a great weekend!

Good Morning!

Students will be coming home with information about “Amelia’s Prom” today. This is an event sponsored by the Fordson Interact Club. It will be held at Byblos Banquet Hall on May 16, from 6-9 p.m. The cost for one student and one chaperone is FREE, additional guests are $30 each. You must RSVP by May 6th, no exceptions. Students who have gone to this in the past LOVE this event! Parents have said it is better than than the Tim Tebow event “A Night To Shine”.

Hello! Please don’t forget to sign up for conferences tomorrow if you would like one. We still have plenty of times available! I will send the link through remind one more time before the end of the day today to make sure it’s easy for everyone to find.

Behavior: Across the board, students have been a little rambunctious. It’s just that time of year – spring is in the air and we are all ready for a much needed break. That being said, we are taking the next two weeks off of CBI and we will be specifically targeting behaviors such as following rules, dealing with emotions, peer to peer interactions, etc. During this time, parents may receive a note to indicate whether their student had a difficult day in those areas. Please understand that this is not a disciplinary measure, but to establish communication between school and home so that we may work as a team. Our goal is to help students be able to thrive independently in their home, community and employment settings.

Project Search: Your student may be bringing home a flyer about project search today. It will indicate whether next year is the last year to attend (2024-2025 school year) or whether they are a future candidate, with their graduation year in parentheses. I recommend anyone who is receiving this flyer to attend this informational meeting. This is an excellent program and I recommend it for anyone who is considering work once they exit the school system.
