Hello!

Chromebooks: Please send borrowed Chromebooks to Hype instead of Howe. You can send them in anytime between now and Feb 16th. Once they are updated we will return them to you for use on March 1.

Late Start – Apparently I missed the memo that late start was moved to next week due to count day. Wednesday February 16th will be the new late start date. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused!

Leo’s/Target – Due to the change in late start dates – Leo’s and Target has been moved to next week as well. We will hold on to everyone’s money and shopping list and pass it back out next week. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Chromebooks and Misc.

Hello! The district is requiring all borrowed Chromebooks to be returned in order to update them, and return them for the March 1 district wide remote day. Please return chromebooks to HOWE SCHOOL by Wednesday, February 16, 2022. (Please do not return them to school with your son/daughter) If you need to make arrangements for a drop off time, please call Howe School at 313-827-7000. Again, please do not send them to school with your son/daughter, we are not in the building where they need to be returned. Thank you!

Modern Greek/Paradise Point Students: Students in either of these two work groups do not need to bring a lunch on Monday/Tuesday or Friday’s. The owner is providing lunch for these students as a thank you. Students working at Goodwill and Howe still need to bring a lunch daily. Each student brought home their assigned job site, but if you have questions please feel free to ask!

Valentine’s Day: Next Monday we will have donuts in the morning before work. If students would like to bring in candy to pass to the class in the afternoon – please make sure they have enough for each student – approximately 30 in the class when everyone is here. It is not necessary but some students enjoy it.

Upcoming Dates:

February 9 – Late Start

February 14 – Valentine’s Day – Donuts before work

February 16 – Chromebooks due to Howe School

February 18-22 – No School – Mid Winter Break

We had a great day today! Pizza and treats for everyone! Next week we will be back on our regular schedule – back to work sites and a tighter schedule in the classroom. Reminder – everyone needs a lunch next week EXCEPT those working at Modern Greek!

We are working on computer skills more heavily this semester. All students are invited to bring headphones in a large ziploc bag, so that they can complete assignments and have computer time on their own. The headphones can be left in the classroom or they can keep them in their backpacks. The computers can only use wired headphones, wireless headphones, like airpods will not work.

Upcoming Dates:

Feb 9 – Late Start

Feb 18-22 – No School

March 1 – Remote Learning for District – due to a special election in Dearborn. (Students will NOT report to school)

March 9 – Late Start

March 18 – No School

March 28-April 1 – No School – Spring Break

Hello! We will have a pizza party this Friday! It will be a nice way to kick off the new semester – as new job sites start on Monday! Students will need to contribute $5 towards the pizza and bring something to drink. Students can bring in the money either Thursday or Friday, whichever works best for you. We will have a movie at the end of the day and students are welcome to bring a snack if they choose. If your son/daughter does not want pizza, they can continue to bring their own lunch.

Good Morning,

Just a quick note to let you know to check your son/daughters backpack today for their updated work assignments. Some work assignments provide lunch for the students, others do not, so this will also let you know whether to send in lunch on work days. As you know, we had to make some last minute changes, so please disregard anything you may have received previously about work sites and lunch. If your student does not have an assignment in their backpack, they have been assigned to Hype, and they may work as a sub for the Goodwill and Howe job sites if it is appropriate for that student. New work sites begin January 31, 2022. Progress reports are also in their folders if they are on my caseload (Mrs. Camp).

Also, I just saw that some buses may be delayed this afternoon due to the snowy conditions. We will be in meetings this afternoon, please call the transportation department if you have any questions. 313-827-3300

Have a great day!

Hello! It’s been great seeing all of the students returning and we are almost up to a full class again! As you may have heard, the quarantine guidelines have changed, and students are able to return quicker as long as they are fever free and symptoms are improving. Please continue to notify us if your son/daughter tests positive, and we will give you a return date. We will notify you when a positive case has been identified in the classroom, but we are no longer doing contact tracing. (The email will come from administration, not us personally.) If you do get a notice, please monitor your son/daughter for symptoms and keep them home if they become symptomatic. We do have to continue to send students home if they have TWO or more symptoms.

Today and Monday are half days for the students. Tuesday is a full day. If you are looking at the district calendar – we follow the elementary schedule because we are a part of Howe School. I will always put our calendar in the “Upcoming Dates” portion of our blog as well.

We’ve had a few changes to our job site schedule as recently as last night. Red Lobster will no longer be able to host our class. We are so thankful for the opportunities we had there, but due to staff shortages, they aren’t able to do what they originally promised the students. However, when one door closes, another one opens! The owner of Modern Greek also owns the restaurant next door, and he wants our students to work there as well! We will begin new job sites January 31st. This means, all students need a cold lunch for the week of January 24th. (Those going to Modern Greek are used to having lunch at the restaurant.) Once the schedule is complete I will let everyone know where they are working.

Upcoming Dates:

Monday January 24 – Half day – 11:30 dismissal

Tuesday January 25 – FULL DAY

February 9 – Late Start

February 18-22 – No School – Mid Winter Break

Welcome Back to School! It was great seeing everyone this morning! I told the students that it’s always hard to come back after a vacation, but after I saw everyone’s smiling faces, I was so happy to be here that I forgot all about having to get up so early this morning! LOL

We are finishing up this semester with current job sites, and then students will be assigned another location to gain a different experience this year. We are also planning on scheduling a job site at Howe School a little differently, so that more students are able to get out of the building and gain work experience. Some students just aren’t ready to work at an off site location, and that’s o.k., we have built in “jobs” here at Hype for those students. Students are with us for 8 years, we’ve got plenty of time! And finally, students with a high absenteeism rate (unexcused) may not be scheduled for a permanent job site and may be used as a “sub” instead.

COVID UPDATE:

Unfortunately, some students are still coming to school symptomatic and/or after an exposure. District policy is to isolate the students away from the class, and send the students home. As a reminder, please do not send students to school under the following circumstances:

  1. If your student or anyone in your household has been exposed to COVID, please keep your student home and contact the school office for further guidance
  2. If your student or anyone in your household has ANY symptoms of illness, or has tested positive for COVID, please keep your student home and contact the school office for further guidance
  3. If your student, or anyone in your household is unable to PASS the Daily District Screener (sent home with every student), please keep your student home from school and contact the school office for further guidance
  4. If your student, or anyone in your household, has a COVID test that is pending, please keep your student home from school and contact the school office for further guidance.

We need every individual to follow this in order to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our classroom. We do not want anyone to get sick and we do not want to have to go virtual again. We are doing our best to remain in person, but we need everyone’s help in doing so. Thank you in advance for those who are following the District Policies regarding COVID and keeping everyone safe.

UPCOMING DATES:

January 17 – No School – MLK

January 21 – Half Day – 11:30 dismissal

January 24 – Half Day – 11:30 dismissal

January 25 – FULL DAY

We have finalized plans for the last day of school before the break. Students who are assigned to go to work sites, will go as scheduled. Upon their return, Mr. Ali is providing a pizza lunch for the students at 1:00. It’s up to you whether you want to send in a light lunch for your student or not. Our lunch break is at 11:15, and pizza will be here around 1:00-1:15. Students who attend Modern Greek do not need a lunch at all. We will end the day with Bingo and Santa Clause 3.

We wish all of you a wonderful break. For those of you who have been affected by Covid, we hope you and your families are feeling better soon, and that you all have a safe and healthy holiday season! See you in 2022!

Good Morning,

It’s great to see students returning! We understand there is a back up with some testing sites and getting results. Even though the buses have started coming by – please keep your son/daughter home until you have those results and they’ve been sent to us. If for some reason your son/daughter tests positive, please let us know so we can give you a return date.

Since so many students are out, we have decided to postpone our Christmas celebration until after the break. We will still do something fun and small for the students that are here – but we will wait until after the break and we will have a “Welcome Back” party for everyone. No one should feel left out!

Upcoming Dates:

December 20-31 – No School – Christmas Break

January 17 – No School – MLK

January 21 – 1/2 Day – 11:30 dismissal

January 24 – 1/2 Day – 11:30 dismissal

January 25 – FULL DAY OF SCHOOL – (We are on the Elementary Schedule if you are following the calendar)
