Hello! Just a few announcements…. (many things are coming home with the students today!)

  • Emergency cards are in your son/daughters blue folder. For most, it seems like the back needs to be completed, with medical information, doctors names, etc. Please make sure to update phone numbers if necessary. It is so important that we are able to contact you in an emergency. Please return ASAP. (If you don’t receive one, it was complete)
  • Details about our Friday breakfast program are also in the blue folders in their backpacks. We plan to start our breakfast program on Dec 2. Please see the flyer for specifics.
  • Parent Meeting on November 11th. Information about this presentation is also in your son/daughters blue folder! Please join us and learn more about our MoCI programs here in Dearborn. Ms. Cote will be presenting for the Hype team! Administrators will be available to answer questions you may have!

Hello! Just a reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow, November 8th. I forgot myself, and because I did, I forgot to pass out CBI information to the students. We will be going to Meijer on Wednesday, specifically to work on comparing prices for our breakfast program. Last week we priced items we would need at Target, this week we will price them at Meijer and discuss as a class which store had the best price. If you son/daughter would like to purchase anything, please send a note with them and the items you would like them to purchase. Please note, we are not able to store items that need to be refrigerated or frozen.

The following students are scheduled to go on Wednesday:

Abdullah, Abrar, Ali H. Ali J, Ali M., Amer, Derick, Giuseppe, Hashed, Munasar, Matthew, Reda, Thakara

Also, please look for the flyer regarding the upcoming MoCI Parent Meeting on November 11th at 9 a.m. You may also start receiving robo calls from the district to remind you of this meeting. Please come and learn more about our programs and other meetings that will be taking place. Our Special Education Administrators will be staying after the presentation to answer individual questions.

Hello! Just a few reminders for this week….

Halloween Party: We will be going bowling and having pizza at Ford Lanes on October 31st. The cost is $12 per student, and includes 2 hours of bowling, 2 pieces of pizza, pop and bowling shoes. All three classes will be attending together. (Please see the note that was sent home earlier this week for more information). Please send in payment to Mrs. Camp by October 24th. Students may wear Halloween tshirts, socks, accessories, etc. but please no costumes.

Breakfast at Hype: Yesterday, you should have received information about a new program we would like to start at Hype. We would like to create more opportunities for the students to develop daily living skills by dedicating one morrning each week where the students will come in and prepare their own breakfast. The information you received yesterday was just a survey to make sure there would be enough interest. By adding this activity, we will be able to address many different skills such as:

  • Setting tables
  • Measuring food
  • Food prep (cutting, chopping, slicing, etc)
  • Using a toaster
  • Using manners
  • Reading nutrition labels
  • Understanding serving sizes
  • Food groups
  • Shopping for supplies

We do need the majority of students to be able to participate, so please be sure to send the survey back by Monday, October 17th, so we can determine whether to move forward with this project.

Fall Conferences – Parent/Teacher conferences will be in November. You should have received a link yesterday to sign up for a time on SignUp Genius. Due to the size of our class, we will hold to a 20 minute conference time, so that we don’t interfere with another parents time.

Upcoming Dates:

October 28 – half day

October 31 – Halloween Party at Ford Lanes ($12)

November 8 – No School

November 23-25 – No School, Thanksgiving

Hello! The school year is off to a great start, and we’ve officially settled into a routine and the students are thriving. The students are doing well a their CBI and job sites, and the class has matured since last year, which means better behaviors and fewer fires to put out! In the classroom this month we are focusing on job etiquette. This includes topics like dress code, body language, good behavior, safety, calling in sick, communication, problem solving, attitude and sexual harassment. Unfortunately, we live in a time where we have to educate our students on what it is and what to do if it happens. The students are taught that it is “unwanted verbal or physical behavior”, and they are told that it’s wrong and to say “no”, as well as taught who to tell if it should happen to them.

Magazines: If anyone has magazines they are willing to donate to the class, the students would love looking through them during leisure time. Sports, fashion, and cooking are all popular. Students also enjoy looking at catalogs such as LTD, and clothing catalogs.

Halloween Party: We will be going on a field trip for our Halloween Party. We will be going to Ford Lanes for 2 hours of bowling, pizza and pop. We will end the day back at Hype and probably have time for a Halloween movie or games. The cost of the field trip is $12, and should be turned in to me by Monday, October 24th. If your son/daughter does not like bowling, he/she may stay home that day as there will not be anyone here at Hype and we will be gone all day. Please just let us know and we will mark them excused. All three classes will be attending this trip: Mrs. Camp, Ms. Cote and Mrs. King.

Zumba: Ms. Susan is hosting a Halloween Zumba party at her studio on October 26th during her Fitness 4 All Class. Time is 5:00 and it will be a Halloween-themed playlist. You can even wear a costume. Family is invited!

A few reminders:

  1. Students should be eating breakfast before coming to school and bringing a snack. It has been brought to my attention that some students are asking for food on the job sites and this is not appropriate or allowed.

2. Tomorrow is a half day, students do not need a lunch, but should bring a snack. We do not attend job sites on half days.

3. Parent teacher conferences will be in November, and we will send home more information in the next week or so. As usual, we will have a Sign-Up-Genuis link for you to choose your time slot. Due to the number of students, we can only offer one time per family so that we are able to see all that families that would like to come in.

Upcoming Dates:

October 7 – half day

October 12 – late start

October 28 – half day

November 8 – half day

November 23-25 No School, Thanksgiving Break!

Hello Families!

Just a quick note with a few reminders for tomorrow!

Tomorrow is our first late start of the year. School will begin at 9:25 tomorrow. Students who are dropped off should not enter the building before 9:20.

Community Based Instruction is set to begin tomorrow as well. This is the first time we’ve had CBI on a late start day, so we’ve told students to come prepared, but to be patient as the bus drivers are still perfecting their routes. If at any time, a student misses their CBI trip, they will go on their next scheduled trip. We are thankful that we are able to get as much as we are this year, so if a student misses, they will be back out within a week or so. If your student is attending CBI tomorrow, they will bring a note home with an explanation of the assignment.

Thanks so much! Have a great day!

Work Site Information

Good afternoon! We have a schedule and start date for our job sites! The students are excited and ready to start. We may make some tweaks here and there, but it’s looking good for now. Please be sure to sign and return the permission slip that is being sent home today. We do need that on file before we can send a student out on a job site or to community based instruction (CBI). You will also find your son/daughters work assignment with the permission slip. This is just to let you know where your student will be, the times they will be out of the building, and the days they will be there. Students in all three classes will be brining those home day, so please look for them tonight. Permission slips need to be returned by Friday, September 16th. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Hello! We are off to a great start and have enjoyed working with the students so much! They are doing an exceptional job and came in ready to learn. We will have our job and CBI sites up and running shortly, until then, students are in the classroom full time. For those in Mrs. King’s room, you can follow along here. She will have her own blog going once she settles into the routine. I will always ask if she has anything to share on the blog so you’re not missing anything

This week, Camp/Cote’s class started $1 coffee/hot chocolate on Friday’s as part of our cooking/daily living skills activities. Any student who wishes to purchase can bring in $1 on Friday to have a beverage during break/snack time.

Have a wonderful weekend!
