Social Studies Test Thursday

Our social studies test will be on Thursday. Your student will bring home a review for them to study. A link under class links to the right can be accessed by clicking on geography review. This review is jeopardy style and students can do it by themselves online.

Miller’s Boo Bash

October 19, 2016
Join us for Miller Elementary School’s Boo Bash!

When: Friday, October 28th
Where: Miller Elementary School
Time: 4:30-6 pm
Cost: $3

We will have food, games, treat bags, music, and fun! Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. It will be merry, not scary!

Students MUST have a parent/guardian age 18+ with them at this event.
Please, no weapons or clown costumes.
Return forms and payment to your child’s teacher by Monday, October 24th.

Volunteers are greatly appreciated.

Family Science and Engineering Night

This is on Thursday, October 20th at 4:30-6:00pm. It is for all families and will be held at Miller Elementary School. There will be an actual engineer, robotics, stomp rockets, explorations and fun for all. Please join us for an exciting family experience.

Curriculum areas

This is what we will be studying and learning about this week.

ELA
Students continue to share their interests, establish goals and build relationships with other students and teachers. Weekly conferring with students begins with discussion of goals, interests and projects. During daily Readers and Writers Workshop, students engage in Language, Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Readers experience Phonemic awareness and Phonics activities through literature while building comprehension. Building stamina and independence continues. TLW read and analyze informational text using science and social studies topics. TLW use the writing process to construct informational writing.

MATH
In this unit, children will work on addition and subtractions of whole numbers, with special emphasis on the basic facts and their extensions; solutions strategies for addition and subtraction number stories; and addition and subtraction computation with multi-digit numbers.

Social Studies
We are currently working on reviewing Michigan geography and map skills.

SCIENCE

Miller Upcoming Events

*Miller has a new drop-off and pickup schedule. Your oldest child at Miller brought home instructions detailing the new procedure. The Miller School blog also has current instructions and details about these procedures.

*Friday, October 14, 2016 will be a half day in the morning for students. School dismissal will be at 11:45 a.m.

*Monday, October 17, 2016 is fall picture day. Picture forms were brought home with students this week. Please bring back to school by the 17th.

*Tuesday, October 25, 2016 will be a field trip for Mrs. Mikho’s and Mrs. Bridgeman’s classes. We will be going to the Edsel and Eleanor Ford home in St. Claire Shores as part of a Michigan history tour which relates to thirds grade Social Studies.
Students will need to bring a sack lunch to eat while we are there. We will be stopping at a park on Belle Isle on the way back to school. We need parent chaperones! If you are willing to come with us, please stop in the office and fill out a background check which is required to come on our field trip. Thank you for your help.

Scholastic Book Orders

Our first book order went home today. Scholastic has many books available at your child’s level. If you are interested in purchasing from Scholastic please have your child bring in their book order with cash and it will be ordered and given to your child in about a week to 10 days.
