Welcome to 4th Grade 2019-2020

Posted by Swsan Beydoun on August 23, 2019 in Class News |

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new year!  I am really excited about being your child’s teacher this year.  Fourth grade is an exciting year.  Much of your child’s success will be determined by the communication between school and home.  Each night your child is expected to log onto the classroom blog where they will find their assignments for the day’s homework.  It is necessary for your child to complete all homework and have an adult look over it.  In addition, all tests taken in class will be sent home for you to sign and return to school the next day.

Attendance

School begins at 8:35.  We ask that all students line up on the playground.  Students entering school after 8:45 must be accompanied by a parent and sign-in at the main office.  Students will not be allowed to enter the class without a parent signature.  If your child is unable to attend school please contact the school office at (313) 827-6850.

Dress Code

Students must dress appropriately in a manner that is not distracting or disruptive to the learning process and weather suitable. Students are asked to follow the Dearborn Public School dress code.

IBlog

Please subscribe to my ibolg.  I will be posting weekly spelling lists, weekly focus, and daily homework assignments.  I will also post upcoming events such as test dates, late starts, etc. on the iblog.

Communication:

If you have any questions or concerns about any of the work or tests, please do not hesitate to call or email me.  I will not be able to speak during teaching time, however I would be happy to speak to you before or after school or set an appointment with you.

Snacks

Each day your child may bring in his/her own healthy snack.  Some healthy snacks ideas are:  fruits and vegetables.  Your child may also bring in a water bottle with a top.

Studying

Throughout the school year I will be sending home study guides for upcoming tests.  I will also conduct review sessions with students where they will take notes and ask questions about the test.  This is a skill that they must learn to practice.  It is important that they know if a test is a few days away that they begin preparing for it.  If they learn good study habits when they are young, they will carry on in life.

Homework/Assignments

Your child will receive reading homework daily.  It is very important for your child to read 20 minutes each night.  In addition they may have to complete any work that was not finished during the day or complete a review assignment for something that we have already done in class.  In science, social studies, and math, your child will have a study guide to study from before taking tests in these subjects.

Grades are not given for homework.  However, if the homework is not completed or at least attempted the child will be penalized.  If your child does not understand the assignment and no one at home can give them assistance, simply write a note on the homework or email me.  This will help me to know what your child may still need to work on.

Supplies

The school will furnish basic school supplies.  However, many students find it more convenient and may prefer to supply their own materials rather than share classroom supplies.  Please label all personal items with student’s names.  These supplies will belong to your child, with exception to the boxes of Kleenex. Your support is greatly appreciated.

The following items are supplies that your child should bring to school:

  • 2 boxes of Kleenex
  • 1 box of sandwich bags, 1 box of freezer bags
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Wipes
  • 1 pack of copy paper
  • Pack of pencils

Once again, I would like to welcome not only your child to my class, but you as well.  I consider us a team in working towards a quality education for your child.  I look forward to meeting each of you at our open house which will take place September 14 from 6:00-7:30.  I encourage you to come and visit your child’s school.  Thank you in advance for being supportive and actively involved in your child’s learning.
