Monay: Constitution Day:.
We will be watching “Future Fright” a video drama about a future
U.S. without many of the amendments in the Bill of Rights that we currently enjoy.

Tues.-Thurs. we will continue our study of the events leading to the
American Revolution. Friday’s quiz will cover the causes of the
French and Indian War and the resulting English taxes.

Students will discuss England’s settlement into America
and the developing problems between France and England
which will lead to the French and Indian War.

Students will proceed with the study of “Early Exploration” with focus
on European settlement in North America. We will continue to
use guided notes at this time. Quiz on 9/7 will be a combination of
multiple choice and short answer questions.

Students will begin the study of slavery in the U.S. and its effect
on the growth of the country. Sections 1 and 2, Chapter 16.

Students will began the study of the reform movements
that went throughout the country in the mid 1800s.
Chapter 15.

Students will study the concept of ‘Manifest Destiny’ and how
it brought about the Mexican/American War (1846-48).
The decade project, Fashion Collage, is due Friday,
April 27th.

Students will begin the study of westward expansion, Ch. 12.
Readings and Promethean presentations will focus on the Oregon
Trail, American emigration to Texas, and the Mormon settlement of Utah.

Students will be taking the M-STEP this week.
I will be showing the movie ‘Jeremiah Johnson’
to tie in with Chapter 12 Westward expansion
and the mountain men.

Students will finish Chapter 12 with discussions and Promethean presentations
on Andrew Jackson’s controversial policies regarding Native Americans, western
land purchases, and the election of Van Buren.

Decade essay on an American invention is due on Thursday, March 29th.

Happy second semester
We will begin Chapter 11 this week discussing the first
industrial revolution. Students will also be given their
syllabus on ‘The Decade Project’ and assigned their decades.
Please keep this syllabus in the students planner or folder
since it will be referred to throughout the semester.
