Unis Middle School girls in physical education class will be swimming for two weeks in November. Swimming is required as per the Dearborn Public Schools physical education curriculum and I expect full participation. If a student is excused for ONE day, I ask for a note from home. If a student is excused for more than one day, a doctor’s note is required with daily assignments to be completed while sitting out of the activity. Obviously, if a girl is on her menstrual cycle, she is excused, but I ask for a note from home and the daily written assignment completed for her to receive 5 points of credit.
My main goal is that students are safe. I am a lifeguard during this unit first, and I am the teacher second. Safety is imperative!
There are goggles for sale at the school store for $5 and swim caps for $2.
