About Mrs. Barker

Hi from Mrs. Barker. Getting this started

I love teaching physical education to the middle school girls at Unis.

GO AVIATORS!

I grew up in a small town in northwest Indiana, graduated from Indiana University, and went back to my hometown of LaPorte to teach and coach.  I was there for 8 years before I moved to Roanoke, Virginia in ’96.  I taught and coached there for two years before I made my move to Canton.  I taught in Redford for two years until I had my son Reed in 2000.  It was nice staying home with him that first year, but I was extremely pleased when I got the call to teach physical education at Woodworth Middle in 2001.  I taught there one year, then moved to Maples Elementary for 8 years.  When I was at Maples, I earned my Master’s Degree in Health Education at Wayne State.  I got  the “itch” to teach the middle school kid and transferred back to Woodworth-then to Stout Middle.  I have been calling Unis Middle School my home since then.

I stay pretty busy after school, too.  Reed and I moved to Wyandotte in 2017. I enjoy running all over my quaint town, reading on my front porch, and taking care of my pets. I have a dog Credo and a cat Graydee.  Reed attends Grand Valley State University in Allendale and Grand Rapids, MI.  He is studying engineering and making me very proud.

My favorite sports to play include volleyball and softball.  I run in 10 Ks and 1/2 marathons as well.  I completed one marathon a few years ago, but the shorter races are more my forte.  My favorite sports to watch include Indiana University football games, IU college basketball, and TIGERS baseball.

Please feel free to email me (barkerk@dearbornschools.org) with any questions or concerns you may have or call the office:  (313)827-1700.  Mrs. Rammal knows where to find me!

    • Hi, Nora! So good to hear from you. I understand about your core subjects! Please stay on top of those, for sure! But, will you please email me the dates and times of your outdoor activities? This is imperative for your physical health, of course, but also your MENTAL health! Thanks for making my day talking about my smile and laugh…it made me smile and laugh!
